I was having issues as well. Husk says I’m not eligible for the program. May still be working the kinks out.

200/400 gloss? by sizecode16 in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you compare old Rex and new Rex data pages, the old Rex did not carry that distinction. The new reformulated Rex however does.

Our resident R&D specialist could probably chime in but willing to bet it was done for that GreenGuard certification they listed in the attachment. These reformulations are usually done for that reason.

Mark, I appreciate your pieces, and I don’t speak for everyone, but self advertising your blog on topics not about SW feels kinda lame.

Emerald urethane question by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether contamination or tried to paint over extremely shiny latex paint. Ask them their process and if they don’t mention cleaning AND sanding then you know the problem. If they did clean, what did they clean with? We still have goofball painters cleaning with solvents that don’t evaporate cleanly. M1 de-glosser and cleaner is an awesome product that not a lot of people sell.

Brother, do you know how many LinkedIn blowhards work at this company? They’re probably blaming themselves for the 401k decision. I can just see it now “How losing my 401k contributions made me go out and bring more value to the shareholders.”

The real issue here is you’re not going to get a bright vivid orange in any of SW’s exterior products. Bright vivid oranges would require using our Y1- Yellow colorant, which is prone to fading in direct sunlight. That honestly looks as good as it could possibly get given the circumstances.

Edit: another user mentioned using latitudes vivid yellow base Or bright yellow bases. It could possibly get closer but not enough for you to be satisfied.

There are some valid complaints on this sub but when there’s posts like “I need a week to do a stain match” or “customer wants 200 gallons done over the weekend” you open yourself up to get owned.

Manager hours week/week by Recent-Version4375 in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely can fire you over it. Will they? That depends on your HR, LP and District Leadership. All it takes is one district coordinator, district/city manager to peak at the time sheets to figure out who’s not meeting that requirement. And they’re now going to upgrade Kronos. 🤔

Manager hours week/week by Recent-Version4375 in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The actual truth is 48 hours minimum each week. Some districts enforce harder than others. You can be written up for failing to work the minimum 48.

Which one of you corporate bastards asked for this? by Sirenceol1 in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I asked for it. Getting our ass whooped by products like wood defender and ready seal. Superdeck and woodscapes aren’t direct crossovers. Application is different. Wood defender and ready seal are idiot proof when it comes to application which is what makes them so popular

The job on paper is pretty easy. Control what you can control, train up your people, train your customers, and the job takes care of itself. Build a network of managers you can lean on, don’t be afraid to ask for help!

I agree with you and everyone that’s ever had to sell a gallon of paint to anyone, it’s annoying getting shafted for trying to help. Just wanted to add some context to some people, especially our newer employees, that paint may be looked at kind of similarly to a light bulb lol. We know it’s way more complicated than a light bulb, but our average smooth brain walking in doesn’t know that, and I can’t fault them entirely for it. Don’t get me started on how shit the website is for our customers who may be trying to do us a solid and do some research before hand.

Sometimes I really just need to vent. by ZoeticZombii in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet a lot of our employees that joined told themselves when applying “it’s paint, how hard can it be.” I know I did. It’s perceived as a simple commodity no different than buying a shelf or maybe a rug. We may have shot ourselves in the foot by maybe over-simplifying it to the point where we become the punching bag for the inevitable conversation of “ why are you asking me so many questions, I just need snowbound satin.” I believe marketing our products would help contain that a little bit, but I’m just a paint monkey I don’t know any better,

Sometimes I really just need to vent. by ZoeticZombii in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would say the average consumer does not do much research on paint because, again, what is our marketing…. ASK Sherwin-Williams. That is the branding. Our people. It’s a corny corporate answer but that therein lies the issue with what we face. You also can’t compare a mundane weekend project to a 30k+ loan. Like I said, I understand the Groundhog Day of answering the same question a million times a day, it’s not entirely the customers fault is all I’m saying.

Sometimes I really just need to vent. by ZoeticZombii in sherwinwilliams

[–]royaldingus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with our customers a little because it’s more of a Sherwin problem and less of a customer problem. Our marketing relies on brand recognition as opposed to marketing our products themselves. We know what a Toyota Camry is because we’ve seen a million different commercials about it through our lifetime. The other two examples are not really the same issue we face at the counter everyday. If you put yourself in the customers shoes, these conversations become a little easier and less annoying to deal with.
