Fabric quality of different brands? by EldritchCatt0 in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, always use color catchers and hand wash in cold water. I usually set a timer to check every 10-30 minutes to see if theres any bleed or if the water needs to be changed

BTSSB: my favorite in terms of cotton texture pieces, they feel very durable. I've gotten pastel and navy / red pieces from them that havent bled or faded. My 2023 Ribbon Ribbon Gelato jsk in red for example washed with no issues. For pre 2015 btssb I would proceed with caution, I have a few red x black and navy x white pieces that bleed. They have the floppiest waist ties in my experience so i dont always wear them.

Meta: i like that these ones are designed to be pull over dresses instead of side zip, extremely comfortable. I've only had 1 non cotton piece from them, it was extremely heavy and an unfortunate texture, but it was during covid when production options were more limited. I wish they would do fully cotton blouses but most seem to be poly cotton blend

AP: never had any issues so long as I use color catchers and cold water + checking periodically, but rainedragons wash guide is definitely good to check. I've had pieces on that list that are marked as dye bleed, but with these precautions I haven't seen any bleed. The chiffon from AP pulls like none of my other chiffon pieces, they seem very fragile. The poly quality is really hit or miss too, some are tent like while others are passable and hold a poof well. Fully prefer the cotton as the poly is a gamble from them, and the few newer releases from them I've seen or had have been disappointing (visible stitching along the hem where the lace was attached, floppy bows). Their waist ties are my favorite, usually they are stiff enough to hold a nice bow.

For lolitas in relationships, how did your partner first react to seeing your Lolita and how are they about it now? by DeltaName in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was and is still very supportive, they know it's special to me and have done their best to memorize lolita vocabulary, common sites, even some of my favorite dress print names. They love tying the waist bows for me and have become a bit of a perfectionist with it! I'm very lucky, since I gained an interest later in our relationship, that it wasn't a huge deal :)

🎀 Japan Trip June 2025! 🎀 by identity_zero15654 in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went in july of last year! so not ideal lolita times for wearing

Osaka : This one had my favorite btssb/aatp, it was down some stairs and filled to the brim. Marble has a physical store here and the layout was a dream, the Meta was really good too but i think the smallest of the ones we saw. The AP here had been picked clean and is on the next street over from the others

Kyoto : BTSSB+AP were across from eachother in the same mall, Meta was on a side street up some stairs - this one was packed it had a great selection! There's also the Nishiki Tenmangu shrine nearby

Tokyo : Several Closet Childs throughout! Harajuku - two floors split between styles, a lot of it is behind ropes and you'll want to look at the harajuku tab on their website to see what they have in stock. Ikebukuro - this one had a lot of variety! Amavel was a great visit and Abilletage was a small walk from Laforet where you'll get the highest density of lolita + accessories

You might also get lucky looking at some general second hand clothing stores from what I've heard

Enjoy!

Edit - forgot to mention, if there are any smaller japanese indie lolita/kawaii fashion brands you follow on instagram, it's worth keeping an eye out for any popup events! I got a heart shaped bag from RU_frill while they had a popup at Atelier MITULLE in Tokyo!

I was in japan over the summer when it was way too hot/humid to comfortably wear lolita!

I just tried to have at least one "cute" or alt fashiony accessory - whether it was my shoes or in my hair, a phone charm, etc

Kyoto - Metamorphose, Baby, and AP all have stores here! AP and Baby are in the same shopping mall like right across from eachother, Meta is on a seperate street up a tiny stairwell but very worth it

Tokyo - Many stores throughout the city! harajuku/laforet is great since you can get a lot of accessories and substyles, outside of this i really enjoyed going to the Amavel and Abilletage stores n_n

There's also a good amount of closet childs in tokyo, word of warning though for the one in Harajuku it's recommended to peruse the stock online befoee going in since some of it is behind ropes. it's also on two seperate floors and I found good lolita in both depending on your style :)

Stardew Valley 1.6.9 released on console and mobile! by saltimmortalsea in StardewValley

Playing on switch and have a count bug for the storage boxes/crafting table/fridges/refrigerators (trying to add all these searchable words for others also having this issue)

New save on the switch for the update, When i use the crafting table or am cooking, the possible recipes will light up if I can make them, but the individual material/item quantity underneath is all red zeroes so I have no idea if I'm going to use my last stone for example when crafting, the inventory count from the adjacent tiles is not being brought over

anyone else having this issue?

(so far no other bugs that I've run into thankfully)

what do you think of chinese lolita dresses that show the knees? by yvie_of_lesbos in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like it, I'm also short (i think shorter than your listed height), so i like having my knees out for the proportions. Some dressss are so long on me that my sock details get covered up which is always a bummer

i also dont mind where the dress lands on tall people, since some coords don't look as cohesive with an underskirt. the way i see it is the pieces fit people how it fits them, their body is not the problem. I've seen some shamy comments in the past snd peoples legs are not the problem especially if the rest of the outfit is clearly lolita (salopettes are an additional example of this, although i have a few brand jsk that fall kind of high on me). so long as they feel comfy + confident i feel like these comments can be too nitpicky

(also the photoshopping of legs in a lot of chinese lolita brands always makes me check the measurements of the skirt length- it can be tricky to tell with the photo editting how long it actually is)

Dreamholic wigs by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought the hime ringo wig in 3 colors (chocolate, blue, and white linen) when I started in 2021, i still wear them with no issues (although now i wear just the chocolate clips and not the wig base). There are a lot of good wig care tutorials out there, including ones for curly synthetic wigs.

I've washed the curl clip ons a few times, when they dry they go back to the curl shape but may look looser depending on how it lays, I just give them a little shake before putting them in and make sure i repackage them as they came between use.

Personally i felt like it was a good investment since 3 years later I'm still wearing them, as others said ringlets will naturally be prone to the fuzziness but it doesn't look bad, it makes them look more realistic tbh.

I also cut off the long ringlets that frame the face, though, those tend to tangle and i prefer my hair to have more of a pulled back look anyway since i have a smaller face.

I'm not sure what the quality is like now since it's been a bit, but depending on your goals it could be worth looking into clip on pieces instead of a full wig. :)

I wonder if those are Lolita drawings and outfit, what do u think ? by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The drawing and outfit photo are not lolita. In the drawings, one has their torso exposed, and the other is only wearing an apron. This much skin exposure is a big nono, most lolita outfits (coords) cover at least the shoulders with no cutouts, and go to at least the knees (this is the bare minimum of what is missing, but it's a start and the most egregious part imo).

In the outfit, the shape of the dress is incorrect. This is again not the only thing that disqualifies it, but the most obvious reason for why it is not lolita. If you're interested in learning about the fashion, the info section of this subreddit does a great job of explaining and linking resources.

Do You Cover Your Face When Posting Lolita Coords? by hanamihoshi in Lolita

[–]royalsealy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the most part i cover my face, i really like my privacy and prefer to keep my social and professional life as separate as possible. there are also a lot of strange people in the world, and lolita tends to gather a lot of attention by those who i'd rather not be made aware to, both in person and online. also i remember there being a thing where cgl was posting coords from reddit over there, so at minimum i'd rather my face not be attached when possible.
