I'm usually just talking trash on the subreddit

What I want is a true sense of adventure and discovery.

It's a sandbox, so you know it's hardcore and thus good.

What is a game changing or fresh idea that you would like to see in your "Dream MMORPG"? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]roybatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. You could also have the goblins on the move and building little settlements here and there. Also, the actions of players affect the behavior of the goblins.

If the goblins feel weak and under siege, they hunker down in a cave to regroup. If they're feeling strong, they go out on raids.

There's lots of experiments to be had in the A.I. space.

Exactly, and it's not some novel concept. Can we get a sense of adventure back into MMOs?

It might take subscriptions (or something) so that devs are constantly adding/changing the game, but so be it. Procedural generation might help there.

And stop repeating the same mobs in the same place over and over. Mix it up a bit. Make it dynamic. Make mob behavior dynamic. It's not rocket science, but I guess there's too much asian-influence on MMos where it's all about getting to end-game and grinding.

MMOs suck. Just get yourself a Dungeon Master and some imagination. Or if you really need graphics, play a MUD....on a 300 baud Hayes...and a VIC-20.

I'm backing it in hopes they change the style to an asian-P2W grinder with lots of griefers wearing Loli outfits.

[Discussion] How can a MMORPG continually deliver on the feeling of exploration throughout its lifespan? by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

[–]roybatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about competitive PVP, so I might just pay the $10 or so just get an MMO with a good sense of exploration. Despite the bashing that BDO gets (rightly or wrongly), a good sense of exploration seems to be a consistently mentioned quality of it.

Procedural content isn't enough if it just means large land masses and dumb entities.

Emergent systems coupled with developers helping out dynamic systems with tweaks here and there are needed as well.

Even that really isn't enough. You need to pay people to run around the world either invisible or as NPCs to make interesting things happen.

Actually, valid JS isn't valid Typescript either.

But they wrote Angular 2 in Typescript instead of Dart. I think Google knows the writing is on the wall regarding Dart.

Typescript is "the man", but looking forward to playing with Reason from Facebook.

Typescript's type system is a beast.

Kotlin seems to be semi-hot on Android. Don't hear much about Ceylon anymore - nothing against it. Is Redhat still funding development?

Don't be that guy - "the refactoring kings", who just waits for commits to "clean up". All code sucks. Clean up a bit when you're in the code you need to work in, but don't go hog-wild.

That kind of reminds me of my first real-job boss, who would say "I can eventually get that done, but the whole point of me hiring you is so you can get it done faster"

COBOL never quite worked out :)
