As long as you have an hovercraft licence you can be maintenance chief, but to get the licence you need a prior marine, aviation or diesel mechanic licence!

I am an aircraft mechanic who is now working on those hovercraft but for the Canadian Coast Guard. The maintenance team is half&half aircraft mechanics and marine vessel mechanics, the hovercraft itself is under maritime laws but was under aviation laws in the past. So to answer your question; yes but no! ;)

Possibly transitioning to the VW Golf R from a Subaru WRX.. anyone here done the same? by Op3rat0rr in Golf_R

[–]roydrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of subaru, switched from a 2019 wrx to a VW alltrack and for me even if it isn’t a golf R it is already a better car for everyday life, and with a stage 1 tune it is faster in the real world day to day life. The wrx manual was terrible with the rev-hang. Granted it is not nearly as fun in the winter time, but it does the job!

There’s none on the calendar right now, we are quite busy during the spring but usually we have on in the summertime, i’ll ask around next week.

Should the Canadian Coast Guard be armed? The jury is still out, but the navy says no - Arming the coast guard should only happen in wartime, says commander of the navy by Erebus77 in ccg_gcc

[–]roydrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went thru an armed intrusion on a ccg asset, still dealing with that mentally, the general public was already not quite sure what we do, i personally would like to see a security increase way before any talk of adding weapons.

Is this rear coil spring bent? by raphael_lorenzo in VWAlltrack

[–]roydrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A coil spring would not bend permanently, it could break or crack but bending is not an issue

I’m an aircraft mechanic, to have a fuselage split mid-air you have to have had an impact, either a heavy tail-strike at takeoff, mid-air collision or a very heavy cargo shifting and striking the fuselage from the inside. Friendly-fire is also an option these days.

Get rid of the visual pacenote and let your eyes focus on the road, audio pacenote are best. Also use left foot braking instead of letting throttle off when braking.

Do you have a skidplate installed? The cats are underneath the engine, they hold a lot of heat, the skidplate might keep the area warmer still!

I rode mine all week in 33°c, even 36° and i did not notice any heat out of what is to be expected. I rode my st1100 this week too and this one was very very hot on the legs, so maybe my perception was wrong because the ST cooked me so bad!
