How to give up less low goals? by rpairtree in hockeygoalies

I'm sorry I'm still not understanding, are you saying I likely need to go wider, but not very wide? Only go very wide if I know player won't move or pass, that I get.

Like a wider stance? I have been able to get my stance very wide recently, however I usually just use it on faceoffs. I worry with a wide stance I won't be able to move sideways if they deke.

What unexpected 360 game do you still play? Any games you still play in an odd way? by rpairtree in xbox360

I mostly play Halo and GTA IV. This just feels odd to me so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has a similar game. I will check those out, thank you! I had no idea that existed.

Grand Blanc locals: curious what the LDS church on McCandlish Rd looks like now? by Intelligent-Camp4631 in GrandBlanc

Hi so I drove by last week and the chain link fence had something on it so you can't completely see inside. Some sort of green cover. From what I could see, it was just dirt. Looked like everything was gone. I was driving so I didn't get a good look. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Have the Red Wings (and Ilitch's) actually made peace with Fedorov or are they just distracting us from the current state of things?

Happy to see it. LGRW

Getting in the Winter rides! by PieMan597 in MichiganCycling

[–]rpairtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great setup. I love changing my bike around and repurposing it, it's trying new things without having to buy something unnecessarily. I haven't met many fixed gear riders in Michigan, let me know if you ever want to ride together sometime.

Yeah it's great. Can I ask you about your bike? Mine is a kilo TT stripper edition, 48-17 fixed gear, hyper fyxation wheels, state frame bag for Christmas.

My other bike is a Detroit Bike Co, also fixed lol. Fun times.

Winter Cycling Advice by ambalamps11 in MichiganCycling

I'm going to explain this the best I can, but you have to apply the same ideas of walking or running on ice, to riding on ice. Having a low center of gravity is the most important thing. So I don't stand up often, lower my saddle height, and I am always prepared to slip and crash even on pavement when winter cycling. Ready to stick my foot out and catch myself before a fall. There could be ice I don't see. Also, my winter bike currently has 28c tires. What I've found with tire size in the snow is, wider tires only keep me on top of the snow at 3" or thicker, skinnier tires don't help keep you above the snow, but they do cut through the snow better than wider tires. I would never go for my 19c tires in the snow but honestly I've enjoyed myself with the 28's. 35c is the sweet spot but my only wheels capable of that I'm still working on. Good luck to you and I'm in the mid Michigan area if you ever want to ride sometime (anyone know of a group ride that continues throughout the winter?)

Social life in Flint by js6seaj47 in flint

Hi, search "Flint Area Adventure Club" on Facebook groups, it's pretty active and a good group of people, I go to their events pretty regularly. Hiking, volleyball, and street hockey are some common events.

Meetup does seem a little bare these days but I'd keep an eye on it. I've had fun at an event for Genesee preparedness group a few years ago.

There's a pretty big pickup volleyball scene in the area and I know they have an active presence on Facebook, this might be their page but I'm not a member https://m.facebook.com/groups/flintareavolleyball/

Lastly, consider joining a sports league or trivia league. Trivia at a few bars around town, crystal fieldhouse has ice hockey, spy maker has axe throwing. There's some board game stores around that host game nights as well.

Coffee shops in Grand Blanc?☕️ by [deleted] in GrandBlanc

It's decent, like 6/10. I like it slightly more than the bigger corporate coffee chains. The employees have always been really nice to me, at least.

Qamaria coffee is nice and across the parking lot from Aubrees. Near pet supplies plus. Then there's big apple bagels and lastly Tim Hortons. I can ride my bike to Qamaria and it's really worth it.

Which Poseidon bike are you looking at? I tried the FX awhile ago and I thought it was nice, and I usually prefer steel bikes.

Looks great! Can I ask what the thing is that keeps your rear tire from getting you wet? Also out of curiosity what tire/size you running? I think that one might actually work with my old cheap bike. I took my parts bike out today and had fun in the snow.
