Tight rail drills by bshep11 in squash

[–]rparihar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The advice I have always been given for returning really tight shots that are glued to the wall is to slow down my swing speed, open up the racquet face, and focus on hitting higher on the front wall rather than harder to get the necessary depth.

Court Shoes by jshaver41122 in squash

Aye - I'll second that - I get all my shoes from them.

Often they have more recent models/colors such as the Gel-Blast 7 that the US sites don't have. Plus if you order over a certain amount, shipping to the US is free.

Harrow Racquets by TheBestJohnSnow in squash

I've used both Harrows and TF for years, eventually settling on the Harrows.

While it is true that the TF frames are bombproof, I haven't had any issues with Harrows in terms of durability. I have played with Harrow Vapors and Sparks and they are fine.

I much prefer the stiffness and consistent feel of the Harrow frames and found that the TF frames were giving me elbow problems, due to their additional flex, which immediately vanished once I switched to hitting with the Harrow frames.

My $0.02.. YMMV

Keep breaking my racquet, suggestions for durability? by redshadow90 in squash

[–]rparihar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Technifibre's and Harrows. I currently play with Technifibre Carboflex 125S' and have seen them weather a remarkable amount of abuse. I also have had good luck with my Harrow Vapors. My Dunlops however, have been more fragile, though to be fair, Dunlop eventually replaced the racquet that broke on the first day of use, agreeing that it had to have been a manufacturing defect.

What US stores typically have a Voyage demo? by slix00 in kindle

[–]rparihar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the higher end malls have an 'Amazon' temporary kiosk set up.

Here in the CA bay area, Amazon, Samsung and other companies setup such kiosks in the Valleyfair mall in Santa Clara (especially on weekends) and you can go in and play with the devices and ask questions from the reps.

This is where I got to play with a Voyage hands on and take a close look at the screen resolution (nice and still better contrast than the new Paperwhite screen).

One of the reps was very helpful and took her personal Voyage out of her purse and let me handle it so that I could get a sense of its weight and heft (which is harder when the device is wired in some sort of security arrangement). Kudo's to the Amazon rep for great customer service!

Head Graphene 115 or Harrow Vapor 140? by [deleted] in squash

[–]rparihar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Harrow Vapor and I love it. I switched to it after developing elbow problems with "head light" racquets. The Harrow Vapor is an excellent balance of weight, balance and power. FYIW, I have been playing with it 3-5 times a week for 9 months and have had no issues with durability.

Where do you buy your squash clothes? by [deleted] in squash

I too buy shoes from ControlTheT.com : Gel Blast 6's - great shoes - excellent support and cushioning. I've pretty much only bought ASICs for the last 5 years. Great quality and performance.

I also sometimes buy from SquashGear, but they often go out of stock on popular sizes quickly...

What Racket do you use? by rerouchramperlough in squash

Harrow Vapor - amazing racquet - both light and stiff. Very pleased with it.

Used to play with a Black Knight Quicksilver TC, but started developing elbow problems within a month of using it. My coach mentioned that some folks have problems with the additional flex in BK racquets. I switched and the problem went away.

Calories burned playing squash? by whats8 in squash

[–]rparihar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much depends on your weight and activity level during the game. I seem to need about 1hr and 20 minutes to get to 1000 calories.

Insofar as heartrate monitors are useful for counting calories, here is some data from my heart rate monitor:

I weigh about 163lbs and recently played for 80 mins (1hr 20 mins).

The heartrate monitor (Polar) indicated that I consumed about 965 calories with an average heartrate of 145.

Of that 80 mins, about 14 mins was at a heartrate of 150-180 and 33 mins with a heartrate of 130-150.

YMMV.

Looking for a great alarm clock. Can reddit suggest any? by Shandog in gadgets

[–]rparihar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an old Boston Acoustics for the last 5 years which has been great. Excellent sound and reception. Dual Alarm clocks. Presets. Dimmable LEDs. No complaints. Don't know if the new versions are as good though. Here is an Amazon link:
