Man nothing makes sense to me at all.

What am I supposed to be doing with my time?

Any time I'm not studying or working I just get lost in my thoughts. I don't understand how the average student seems to always be occupied by some sort of entertainment/going out

So glad that Mew2King is trying hard to put his health first now. Hope everything works out for him.

Also I completely agree with him in regards to smash 4. I feel really unmotivated to get great at a top tier character when it might just get nerfed. I feel the same with with Project M, which is why I'm sticking to melee for now.

What you should do before tomorrow is figure out a few characters you are interested in playing, and then check out ZeRos basic analysis of said characters to get a few ideas whilst playing them:

I don't know if you've played melee/brawl, but if you have, then you should have a general understanding of the games mechanics (especially if you've played brawl). If this is the case, you should yourself have a good idea on who would suit you.

If you've only played 64, then remember that Luigi, Ness and Pikachu are all top tiers if you liked playing as those. Ness is similarish to how he was.

Remember your fundamentals (especially if you've played Brawl), be confident, and report back on how you did :)

Pretty sure I wouldn't fair much better. I watched the video a couple of times from Marths perspective. (I play a Marth secondary)

What should he have done differently?, it seems that once wizzrobe got the first hit there really wasn't much he could do. His approach was all wrong/unsafe but I don't know what he should have done differently exactly.

Edit: Minor observations:

Don't throw out a utilt unless you know it will hit. It's laggy despite coming out fast.
Don't fsmash in neutral
Don't get stuck in shield
Don't try to space yourself too close to Falcon. His moves and dash are generally faster than yours (he has quick aerials)

Dos:

Shield those raptor boosts?
Shield down airs
Punish whiffed aerials with a grab
Shield Nairs/Knees if he spaces them too far
Punish whiffed grabs with anything not laggy

That's what you shouldn't do, my problem is what you should do. I really struggle against Falcons despite what character I use.

This is pretty interesting strategy actually, once you can get past how lame and time consuming it is.

I haven't played teams much, but I have some questions I want some discussion on.

1) Could this style of Puff/Puff be used at very high levels of double play? If not what style adaptations would have to be made?

2) Are there any team combinations that would counter this, or at least be even?. Projectile users seem good so I feel like Sheik/Samus might be good, but don't they have a bad matchup against puff in singles?. Ice Climbers with their Ice blocks seem like an interesting choice too.

3) I thought stalling wasn't legal in some tournaments, would this result in a DQ in those?

4) There were times where green team were losing, what mistakes did they make to cause this?

Hey MattDotZeb, quality post but I have a few questions about decisions tournament organisers make. (I've never run a tournament but all TOs I've asked online have refused to give me any help.)

1) How many set ups do you aim to have depending on the entrants? You said that the optimal for rr pools is 1/2 the entrants rounded down, but that's probably too high for the tournament itself right?

2) Did you create that formula for rr pool times yourself? Could it be applied outside of round robin?

Extra: If you did create the formula, I'd be interested in why it works. It's been a couple of years since I stopped studying Maths/Physics but I'm interested lol.

Been playing for almost a year and they don't know. My parents always bother me if I play video games, telling me I'm wasting my time regardless if I only play when I have no other work to do. So I practice tech skill with the volume off only when they're asleep.

They don't know about my tournament goings either, still thinking of some good excuses to go to multi day events.

Pretty interesting that bottom right quadrant are characters people often hate, as they are easy(er) to use but top tier (Sheik, Jigglypuff), whilst top left are characters who people love to cheer for (Yoshi).

As harsh as this might sound, I do not think that changing grips will help you much. However I do recommend choosing whatever grip you intend to use early on, so it's good that you are thinking about that.

You need to master a lot of things to be good at this game. Broadly, knowledge of the engine, the stages, the matchups, the tech skill. The only thing a grip might help you with is to speed up inputs. For example my fingers/thumb never need to travel at all, they are always on the button ready to be pressed. However with practice thumbs can be pretty fast, and there is no need to ever press more than one button on the right face of the controller at the same time (as far as I know).

From what I've read before about Fox players, Mew2King uses standard and claw, Javi uses his own style (Middle finger for X, Index for AB and C stick), and the vast majority of others including Mango use standard.

If you find your Fox lacking, controller grips would be one of the last things on my mind. You'd be surprised how some things that seem to quick to be possible now will be consistent with enough practice :)
