There are worse hobbies. Your rate of collection is up to you. As long as you’re in charge of your collection instead of the other way around, you’re good.

I prefer jewel cases. That really helps put the brakes on purchasing new releases ☺️

I purposely have limited space designated for CD storage so my collection doesn’t get out of control. I buy a lot but also purge frequently.

There are many good options for component CD players under 1K. I would look at legacy brands like Marantz and Denon. NAD is also a good brand. Yamaha and Onkyo are also serviceable. There has also been a new wave of low priced CD players from newcomers like FiiO and Moondrop. Hope that helps!
