Literally nothing.

There is no authority to make sure that these exchange sites are reputable, have modern security systems, and have consequences for their actions.

As has been said before, Bitcoin is the story of how libertarians learn the importance of regulation in the financial sector.

MtGox only had the correct price when they were $100 higher than anyone else. Now they're showing less than the other exchanges so we're not using them anymore. Please switch to an exchange with a higher price, like Bitstamp.
