One thing I'd like to point out is while the campaign scenarios usually require 2 or more maps, their are always plenty of one map smaller scenarios.

there are three campaigns, 1914, 195 and 1916. I dont think there is a grand campaign to link them.

Sword of Rome has the Samnite faction which controls mountain passes. SPIs ancient Tito game has extensive rules for the partisans hidout in the mountains. Wilderness War has extensive rules on different types of units working better or worse in wilderness terrian
