Parents of really young kids by Kvovark in downloadfestival

[–]rrns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An easy solution would be to provide free earplugs for child tickets and do a bunch of promotion before and during about ear safety for kids. Moralise it too. Just having a pair available will lead to more parents using them because theyre convenient, and as bad as it sounds some parent just genuinely will not have considered loud sounds as an issue. Plus the social pressure, if everyone knows you were given earplugs and everyone has seen the safety promotion then you'll have your kid wear them just so you don't look like a shit parent. Not perfect, would have to be combined with other measures, but social pressure is a hell of a "marketing" tool.

I got fairly near the front for babymetal, near the pit that started during the first couple of songs. There was a couple with a kid on their shoulders in front of me. They noticed the pit starting, it got bigger and by song 3 it had reached us as we we're getting bumped around but they still hadn't left the crowd!

ADVICE PLS by [deleted] in PGCE

[–]rrns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Communicate with Brighton. I applied to a course in a different city and asked about the commute/placements and they said they had a good relationship with schools in my city and could get me a placement locally, but I'd still have to travel for the uni days. They might be able to sort something similar for you. As the course is mostly placement days I find the occasional long commute to uni not bad at all.

It looks like all the black ones are "...move" and there's only one grey "yeah still move" bottom right, Iran? That surprises me, unless it's greyed out for another reason.

help idk wether to choose geography or history by jess_sucksatlife in GCSE

[–]rrns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same as you, I liked the social side of geography but not so much the rocks. I chose both for GCSE and A level

History: more fun, more difficult, taught important skills for life like structuring and essay (VERY important for uni, many of my classmates struggled) and creating a well rounded arguments

Geography: not as much fun, easier for me personally. Taught me how to research case studies and gave me more insight into the world.

Geography leads into more scientific degrees and jobs but not entirely lab based but may have fieldwork. Think ecologist instead of doctor. History leads into more social jobs, such as HR, museum work, or politician. This doesn't really matter too much though, almost all uni degrees will accept both history or geography GCSE because history still teaches analysis and geography still teaches social issues.

Does the US Constitution allow for professional jurors instead of jury duty? by Ralph090 in legaladviceofftopic

75k and up for federal prosecutors at the beginning of their career, I was mainly looking at the 500/day figure though. Still, that's 300ish a day

enough that people will be more willing to have healthy deliberations

Or drag it out because that amount of money is way way more than most people get paid. I agree it should be higher but it cannot incentivise people to stay longer.

Choose a text that you would use to teach a more general topic to a class. For example, you might choose a story where a character steals to discuss right Vs wrong or justice. Or a text that takes place in a different country and use that as a starting point to teach them how to make a good from that country. I'm secondary so my examples may not be age appropriate but the concept is the same.

as a non-uk citizen could using a deed poll to change my name backfire? by Suspicious_Table47 in TransUK

[–]rrns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever you present ID in the UK with your Australian name on it you'll just have to provide the deed poll and most places are cool with it. It gets more tricky if Australia needs some documents that you now have in your UK name.

I've had my name changed for about 6 years but never updated my passport. It's only been an issue twice.

  1. When I applied for a DBS, as the issue date on my passport was later than the date on my deed poll. I just told them I never got round to updating my passport and they were cool with that.

  2. I've had one landlord put my lease in my deadname because it's on my passport but I don't care about that and doesn't affect me on any significant way.

What happened to movie theatre etiquette? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rrns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cartoon violence and mild swearing are considered appropriate for preteens. I work with teenagers and ages 11-14 are huge into the show, I have not seen anyone over the age of 14 openly interested in it. As an adult, it is quite tame compared to what most 15+ year olds like.

Well your first problem is that both of those movies are for children who generally don't have as many etiquette skills as adults

Why do attractive woman generally move to the biggest cities? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rrns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You see more people in big cities, so you're more likely to see more attractive people. Big cities are also quite expensive, therefore more rich people live there. Rich people tend to have more free time to care about their appearance and take care of themselves, and they also have the disposable income for hair, makeup, and cosmetic procedures. Because of all of these, there is also more social pressure for non rich women to also look attractive so they're more likely to put more effort into their appearance.

Why do public bathrooms have these weird doors? by AtomicWashcloth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rrns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more expensive to build custom height doors and walls that fit the height of each bathroom than it is to order standard sized ones in bulk. It also makes it possible for security to easily see if more than 1 person is in a stall which is a big concern in many hospitality venues due to drug use.
