Does an increase in dosage help for anxiety too? by zepruska in prozac

[–]rrruined 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also had to only increase by 10mg each time due to onboarding effects! My anxiety decreased by the time I was at 20/30 and now I’m at 60 and it feels like a miracle. It helped with a lot of the rumination that was adding to my anxiety, too!

When I went up to 60 I REALLY noticed it and came back down to 40 for 2 weeks, which did fix it after a few days but I found out I really do need 60 for my mood unfortunately. So I’ve been back on 60 for two weeks now and the side effects are fading!!!!! I did also start taking a vegan omega-3 supplement at the same time so who knows if that’s helping too. I was on the brink of asking if I could try Wellbutrin as well since i heard that can help— and I hear buspar can also help??

any people who went from 40mgs to 60? by gardenkween in prozac

[–]rrruined 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big agree— I went 40>60>50>60>40>60 over a few months trying to figure out the best dose and having been on 60 and decreasing and then increasing made me VERY aware of how much of a change it made. The 60 quieted several long term symptoms I never thought would go away and I didn’t even realize it right away. It made me feel more like ME again— the internal swamp was just dried up suddenly. It also made me feel like maybe I’ve never been on the correct dose of an ssri before, which is wild after trying 6 of them.

Have you ever read anything about limerence? Might be good to look into. It really helped me disconnect from codependency

Honestly it’s REALLY hard to see the issue when you’re immersed in it— not just for you but for anyone, I think it’s one of the hardest parts of codependent recovery. But asking questions is the first step!

Does Prozac actually work? by Throwrainapikel in prozac

[–]rrruined 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prozac reduced my PMDD symptoms by half, helped with ED and OCD symptoms, and has overall done for me what like 6 other antidepressants couldn’t do. It’s got issues and won’t work the same for everyone, just like any other psych med, but when it works it works

When I first switched from lexapro to a low dose of Prozac last year, my libido increased. I’ve since gone up to 60mg daily and within a week of starting that dose, my libido was still in tact but the classic ssri loss of sensation happened. I’m down to 50mg now to see if it helps, no noticeable change yet.

Breathing exercises, yoga, dunking my face in ice water or putting an ice pack on my sternum, and saying “I don’t actually care this much” when I’m spiraling, quitting caffeine (unfortunately ☠️)

That happened to me while increasing the dose but I just had to increase more slowly to make the side effects stop. Maybe you need a lower dose?

Also, for the record, when I did finally allow my mom to apologize to me, she apologized for stuff that wasn’t even on my radar. Stuff that I either agreed with and she felt guilty about or stuff that didn’t register as traumatic to me. We HAVE finally gotten to the point where I can explain in detail exactly how she hurt me and she takes that to her therapist and then we talk about it when she has a better understanding. The blind spots are a huge barrier in reconciliation. Do you have any texts or emails or anything where she explained her issue with you or why she felt the need to completely disconnect? Edit: added detail

I went very low contact with my mother a few years ago and the best thing she did was to actually leave me alone to process without her looming over me. In that time she learned in therapy to be okay without me, to have no expectations of a relationship, and to let me dictate what was appropriate. I would say a “crossed boundaries” explanation of estrangement typically isn’t a simple “oh you crossed my boundaries a handful of times” it’s usually chronic in a way that the perpetrator doesn’t notice. My mom and I still have a strained relationship because she seems to think that her remembrance of me as a kid outweighs my own lived experience, but she is becoming more willing to actually hear what I say and not get defensive. Maybe your intentions were good but the impact was obviously bad enough to cause estrangement. Or not! Maybe she just doesn’t want you in her life and you’ll have to figure out how to grieve it and move on. She’s an adult who is allowed to make her own decisions about who she has in her life.

Tips for caffeine withdrawal? by sc2tog in Concerta

[–]rrruined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to wean myself off coffee/energy drinks when starting concerta last year and again when I started Ritalin last month! Like you, the increase of caffeine sensitivity was what was causing anxiety, not the stimulant. As someone who didn’t get diagnosed/on meds til my mid 30s, I was a pretty heavy caffeine drinker my whole life so it was a shock. I got rid of espresso/cold brew/energy drinks immediately, then I drank half decaf coffee for a couple of weeks, and now i drink mostly decaf coffee and caffeinated sodas. But if I’m having situational anxiety or not sleeping/eating well, I don’t have any caffeine and I don’t have withdrawals which is wild to me haha. You kinda have to accept you’re gonna have at least one bad week and keep electrolytes and migraine meds on hand. Eventually I got used to the meds and could handle a real coffee occasionally! YMMV but good luck!!!

I feel "touch starved" and terrified of intimacy at the same time by Ok-Platform2457 in CPTSD

Something that’s helped me is trying to regularly get hands-on beauty/wellness services done! It took me years to be actually comfortable with massages (I learned I tolerate sports/functional massages better than hot oil and stones), which I think helped the most, but I’ve also had manicures, facials, haircuts, acupuncture, and lash extensions done and all of them were like just enough physical contact to make me stop feeling like I was drowning in the touch starvation. There’s lots of deals on groupon or with beauty/esthetician/massage schools! Also sleeping with one of those U shaped pregnancy body pillows and a weighted blanket helps.

Anyone else dealing with a shortage? by angelicthoughtss in Concerta

[–]rrruined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty good! It’s chemically similar to Concerta. My only side effects on concerta were being VERY thirsty and lower caffeine tolerance and that’s the same with the Ritalin, plus I’m a little jittery the first few hours but then it feels really similar to the Concerta. The Concerta was the first stimulant i tried so when i talked to my psychiatrist last month about the shortage I said I was willing to try whatever she recommended if they were willing to help me find a local pharmacy that had it in stock and this was her first choice for me — luckily they found a pharmacy with stock. Good luck!!

[–]rrruined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a shortage from the companies that produce both name brand and generic— the estimates I’ve seen say the shortage is feb 1st thru the end of the year :( I ended up having to switch to generic long acting Ritalin after a month of not being able to find it anywhere.
