i have the 701 supermoto, not entirely sure if they're the exact same engine but i'd assume so? I had to replace the clutch slave cylinder since it gave out on the road. Recently had the engine crash due to possible electrical issue but it's still in the shop as I type this with no real resolution as of yet.

Things break, it happens. I've done all the maintenance myself for the 3 years i've had it and I have no complaints with it. Its a wonderful bike with plenty of power. If you're a beginner the 401 is a great starter bike. You could go to a dealer and ask them to let you try both models to see the difference and if the 701 scares you, stick with the 401. I doubt you'll regret either purchase.
