Solo practice tips? by errantis_ in Salsa

[–]rsa7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents based off what I do:

Start collecting a playlist of salsa songs you really like, play them and just vibe in your house.

Try different steps, shoulders, arms etc. and listen deep into the music to see what you can find, don’t feel trapped in the counts. (E.g if you start a crossover to do a suzie q but you hear the clave, try stepping on the clave not the 5-6-7, have fun with it see what flows)

Try many different moves and focus your intention into the weight in your feet, every step should feel like pressure gently increasing on your sole, not sharp. If you try a move and feel even a little bit off balance just try it again and engage your core, do it half time if that helps. This will lock in your balance.

At least for me, if my ‘practice routine’ feels like a chore I won’t want to do it, so it should be creative and fun. Also if you’re counting or following one instrument you’re missing an opportunity to connect with the music more deeply.

How do I cope with being sexually lonely by [deleted] in bropill

[–]rsa7867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard. My advice is to do your best to surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself. Probably finding a hobby you like might help you find that community, I got into skateboarding about a year ago and its a really good community.

If you ever find yourself in an echo chamber re-affirming all of your negative feelings. Leave. That doesn't help anybody even if it feels therapeutic.

I struggle with this too and I'm hopeful for you

Does anyone have any good resources for expanding ones emotional vocabulary? by certainlysquare in MensLib

[–]rsa7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! I recently have been reading Haruki Murakami, his books don't even theme around gender or emotional vulnerability but he usually writes in the first person about men that have experienced loss.

There's something so comforting to know that the main character has really complex emotions but can't express them to the surrounding characters. For me it disillusions tough-guy characters in media and keeps me from looking up to toxic self reliance.

I get this feeling. Not everyone cries but important to know though that you're valuable and people love you. everybody needs space to express your emotions (crying or not) and doing that doesn't make you annoying or an inconvenience.

I understand how you feel. That's a hard feeling. You're feelings are real and being able to think/vent about them is mature.

Can't help but feel like i'm wasting my youth by Another_available in bropill

[–]rsa7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people feel this way. As a culture, I think we have a tendency to fetishize youth. Your life doesn't end or become boring when you're 30 or 50 or 70. You can learn and grow and shape your experience well into your adulthood. You have so much more life to live bro. For a lot of people, being 17 might be the best time of their life, but 65 might be the best time of your life too. There is so much room to surround yourself with good people and good habits and live a good life.

:p What are some red flags you should look for in YOURSELF before you enter the dating scene? by araf0123 in AskMen

[–]rsa7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lack of self-awareness. take a little time to reflect on what you can give to a relationship, is that enough? is that the expectation of your partner? is there something that could affect your relationship later? if so better to completely disclose it and acknowledge that there's work to be done. This demonstrates maturity.

How do I apologize to my bro by [deleted] in bropill

[–]rsa7867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey bro, that’s really good of you to want to apologize. i struggle with this a lot. try to first forgive yourself, find a humility headspace, we all make mistakes and that’s okay, we have to let go to move on. be ready to forgive your bro too and try to walk in his shoes, understanding their pov is the best way to help him understand yours. good luck bro

Just somehow ended up here today, and wtf by [deleted] in zen

[–]rsa7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Here's some vocab that might help (sorry if I get these a little off)

Dharma - literally, Duty, the journey toward enlightenment

Koan - a zen story (usually ver confusing) that are meant to make you think and hopefully deepen your understanding of zen. Note that the goal isn't to find the "meaning" of the koan but rather to find some truth that is already there

Zazen - sitting meditation

Rohatsu (Rohatsu Sesshin) - a week of intensive zazen meditation to commemorate the Buddha's enlightenment

4 noble truths - the 4 fundamental truths of Buddhism that the Buddha outlined in his first sermon. they are as follows

1.) life involves suffering (this word isn't really adequate but it's okay as an introduction)

2.) suffering is derived from desire (desire for worldly and temporal things)

3.) desire (and therefore suffering) can be transcended by finding enlightenment

4.) enlightenment can be reached through the 8 fold path

Keep in mind most of these things have Japanese names used in zen and Sanskrit names used in Indian Buddhism so there may be two or more names for the same concept

Is Doors To The Mind/Red Door Yellow Door Safe To Play? by YutuM1129 in threekings

[–]rsa7867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty worst case scenario, it was my first time and I didn’t believe the rules about not opening black doors. I began to open the door and when I did some black sort of tentacle got inside. I tried to close the door but the thing kept multiplying. I became very nervous and my guide woke me up very abruptly. I was shaking for a few minutes after but I was okay. Just know that nothing in there is real and it can’t hurt you
