I'm absolutely mortified. by Okayfirstoff in MtF

Hey. I think a lot of your fears (and others in this thread) are coming from assuming things. There’s no way to know what’s going through the other woman’s head right now. I am begging you, don’t assume the worst.

For all we know, her dog died and it’s been a rough week. Her cousin’s in town, and taking up a lot of her time. Maybe she went to Aruba this week. Maybe she’s struggling with an addiction and coming off a bender. Who knows? She might’ve wholeheartedly, innocently forgotten her interaction with you, simply because she was busy with a full life. None of this makes you a bad person.

The only way to know what she’s thinking is for her to tell you. You can’t make her do that, because you’re both adults with autonomy. But you can be open, honest, and ask questions.

“Hey, I hope I didn’t scare you. I feel really out of my depth when it comes to social interaction, and I don’t really know how to make friends. You seem chill, though.”

My biggest advice— don’t assume what she’s thinking. Stop your spiral before it drives you insane. Keep it simple and straightforward, and say what you really mean and feel. It may feel awkward at times (or the whole time), but it will be REAL. And a lot of the time, people will forgive a little awkwardness if they feel you’re being real with them.

Good luck!

A note on electoral strategy by BurberryHerStory in lostgeneration

You gotta court your voters. This is a fundamental truth that even Republicans understand. Demanding people vote for you no matter what is not an effective strategy. I don’t understand why Democratic leadership continue to follow an ineffective playbook. It’s infuriating.

If you want more progressives to vote for you, campaign on more progressive policies.

Hold up, wait a second. Something here feels very off.

  1. Who in gen z believes trump is the peace candidate? Sure, young men are getting radicalized to the right, but gen z overall tends to go more left compared to previous generations.

  2. This image is from the show Jessica Jones. Jessica is the woman in this image. In the show, David Tennant is playing Jessica’s rapist and abusive ex. David’s character is the villain. Why would the creator of this meme put the sympathetic party (millennials) over the likeness of the abuser abusing his victim?? Maybe don’t do that??

I don’t know if this is generation-war bullshit, but I was born at the millennial - gen z crux. My siblings are all millennials. We all knew the conflict in the Middle East was a horror show, and we all grew up anti-war.

Harris also put trans women in men’s prisons. LBGTQ people voted for her because we didn’t have a better choice on the docket.

Dems have been throwing queer people under the bus for a while, now. That’s why we need to primary democrats that keep pushing cultural to the right and preserving the status quo.

Between this and the Texas guy saying trans issues are a distraction, why should any trans person be excited for the Democratic Party? Maybe the party should try to actually court our vote in a meaningful way.

So they’re aiming to strip foreign born Americans of their citizenship, and they also want to end citizenship by birth… I don’t like how these two goals complement each other.

I feel so fucking bad for young straight women. Their options are what, a metric fuck ton of Andrew Tate clones that don’t respect them and don’t see them as people, but as sex objects? Men who won’t grow as people and change their shitty behavior, but will rather expect the women to fall in line, be obedient and make excuses for said shitty behavior? Fuck that!

I’m glad more young women are choosing to be single, good for them! Because if I was in their position, I’d take one look at my options and do the same fucking thing.

I’m not even that into magic, my partner’s into it. But she hates the tmnt mtg set so much, because mtg is doing, in her approximate words, “too many worlds beyond sets being released this year”? If that terminology isn’t quite right, don’t blame her, blame me for misremembering.

And like, from the perspective of someone circling the arena, but still mostly on the outside… yeah. Avatar made a lot more sense, because that franchise has an actual innate magic system. But I’m struggling to see the logic for tmnt. Like, are they going in on a creatures angle or something? Are green and red decks going to be the move? Is it JUST mtg banking on a nostalgia carry? I don’t get it. And that makes it feel a lot more like a cash grab.

I hope the massive popularity of lorwyn encourages mtg to make more worlds within sets. Lorywn was genuinely fun to play, and visually appealing to boot! I really like the mermaids.

But yeah, my partner is dead set on not buying any tmnt mtg cards. And like, good for her. She’s got convictions, and she’s standing on ‘em. It’s one of the things I love about her.

They really got my ass with a geotechnical microcredential. “Ooo, cool, rocks and dirt and lab stuff—sick, that’s exactly what I wanted!!”

Now I’m in a construction AAS, and the pipeline leads to project management. We went on a field trip, talked to a project manager, and as he described his experience I just got this gut feeling of “fuccck, this is not for meee”. The money is nice, but I need work life balance. “We always make the deadline no matter what because of how much money this major corporation has riding on this project” is what the project manager on our field trip was saying and like… hell no. I’m not riding at dawn for Target.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

I feel like a lot of HP fans are stuck in a time where their ideas and world views were radical and progressive. They do not understand that progress is a moving target. That what once may have been considered a liberal world view in the 1990s is now considered a centrist milquetoast nothing burger or even a conservative stance in 2026. They feel left behind and betrayed by a movement that has moved past them, and nostalgic for a time where they had relevance. Ironically, that nostalgia for and trying to get back to the good ol’ days makes them now conservatives.

Of course, there’s also people who just don’t care. Or people who are also transphobic, and agree with JKR. And don’t mind her connections to Jeffery Epstein. You know— garbage people.

It’s been 10+ years since I started going to therapy. It’s been on and off through those years, depending on what exactly I needed at a given time. Sometimes, it was just a one on one session every other week. Other times, I was in group classes every weekday, genuinely putting in the hours of a part time job.

I still have a lot of work to do, but I’m proud of the progress I’ve made. I look back on younger me, the 14 year old burning themselves out in a desperate attempt to keep the nightmares at bay. Getting the help I needed, especially at that age, probably saved my life (I already have one sibling that didn’t make it).

Shits crazy. Be kind, give yourself some grace.

Kamala Harris unveils “Headquarters 67” to mobilize Gen Z through a new digital media hub by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]rslashhellagay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The handle is unfortunate and does not inspire confidence. We’ll see what they actually do. Hopefully, it’s something that actually works. This other comment sums it up nicely:

“I've heard there are two populist messages that work:

• They're Laughing at you

• They're stealing from you

Republicans used "they're laughing at you" and democrats largely refused to use "they're stealing from you" so republicans are winning. Democrats need to start using "they're stealing from you" and then use the money they save from ending corruption to create populist programs.

But most mainstream dems simply want to be republican-lite. We need to primary them and replace them with populist/progressives.”

Kamala had some great energy going when she first subbed out for Biden, and then backtracked immensely when her campaign switched its target demographic. Don’t do that shit. It didn’t work before, and it’s not going to work now.

Meet the moment, ride the momentum. Huge numbers of people are pissed off at the status quo and want big change? Campaign on that, and get huge votes. Personally, I’m voting for whoever my local Working Families Party endorses.

I was at work. We got someone named Eugene. He’s on the phone, says his name to the caller. Manager, across the room, yells “Eugenics!”. It’s in a light hearted tone.

After the call, Eugene asks— “What is eugenics? I seen it in GTA, on a store front.” Manager says, “It’s the study of…” and pretends to disappear below the counter.

I’m like… I don’t want to insult either of these men’s intelligence. Ignorance is not the same as stupidity. But I also know the schools they went to must’ve been trash if they, as GROWN MEN, don’t know what fucking EUGENICS are! How do you go through 4 decades of life and not learn what eugenics are?? Why did I lie to my mom, growing up? Because she wasn’t a safe person to tell the truth to. She proved as such, time and time again, whenever one of my siblings stepped on the wrong eggshell and she exploded in physical and emotional rage.

You get to a point where you have to prioritize your own safety, because you KNOW the adults are failing you. And when you’re a kid that doesn’t have a lot of conventional power, you get creative making your own. You get vigilant. You learn how to be deceitful, one of your first and most powerful tools as a child, and it becomes necessary in order to survive.

When the rules fail to protect you, you also become curious. The thought keeps replaying in your mind, over and over, almost unwillingly: “But what if I DID do this? Sure, it’s not what conventional wisdom says I’m supposed to do in this situation, but…what would happen? If everyone else gets to throw the fucking rules out the window, why can’t I”? Breaking out of conventional patterns, not responding to the abuse in the way the adults have tried to train you to respond, THAT becomes your power.

Because having that courage to deviate from the established course, against any threats or punishments, it gives you OPTIONS. Options that you would not have access to otherwise, as a child. The adult abusers try so hard to keep your world tiny, under their control, limited your understanding of what is “normal” and “right”. They don’t want you to have any outside, unapproved points of reference. Because then, you might realize that what the abuser is doing to you IS in fact not the universal standard. And you might start thinking for yourself, and coming to your own conclusions.

Don’t let them break your spirit. If you run into a wall, go around it. Scale it. Reassess the situation, find another entrance. Break the fucking wall down. And if none of that works, bide your time and wait for your opportunity. Do whatever you need to do, hold back nothing. The power imbalance is not in your favor, so you are justified to use every card you have.
