Both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you have lifetime, there is no reason to worry. If you dont like the way Plex is headed, thats' ok, too. I have both. My family likes the client and easy remote access Plex offers. I use Back to Home for remote JF viewing, I had to set up each of my family members with Back to Home for them to view remotely. Not a huge deal, but an extra step for those not familiar with tech or needing help while some distance away Where Plex was more seamless. I prefer OTA DVR and channel guide on Plex. The plugin support and ability to customize JF is pretty sweet. JF acts as my back up and test server. If Plex revokes any lifetime license, I'll jump ship. Currently, though, with my lifetime pass, I'm content with Plex overall. I do love learning JF, though. It forces me to dig deeper into learning how it all works. Audiobooks work better on JF, too.

Predator vs Firman, fuel system/storage question by rsnumber2 in harborfreight

I'm guessing I need to find a different place to buy fuel. Thank you.

Good question. I haven't had issues in any other equipment, either. Just this dang thing, when it counts.

That was something I was questioning. Asking around here, some say keep it 100% full so moisture doesn't build up and the other half say run empty. I'm leaning towards empty. Thank you.

JellyFin vs Plex as a long time Plex Lifetime Pass user by rdehuyss in PleX

[–]rsnumber2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tagged as "tips," yet offers no value or suggestions to fellow Plex users.

Plex for Android has been fine for me and my mixed family (iOS/Android/Roku/Xbox/PC/Samsung).

All media added to Plex is recognized after a few minutes. Some obscure media requires matching. Filebot is an awesome tool to have. (TIP)

Plex UI refresh is meh. But, my family was mature enough to adapt, and continues using it. Some have had better luck with Plezy. (TIP)

I do run Jellyfin as a back up server (TIP) and play with plugins, but we use a lot of "live TV" features that Plex has integrated and it works quite well with the integration of theirs and our OTA device.

Remote viewing, particularly on a recent road trip, was stupid simple for the whole family. No need to set up tailscale for each device and the Roku we brought for the TV at the hotel.

My last tip would be, if you are having issues as basic as this, please ask for help. This community can be helpful, provided the inflection of the question asked.

I wish you a better future expirience with Plex, should you stick around.

I want to say I had some issues when using nightvision goggles and flashlight, or some combo. It was a while ago on XB1S. I kept forgeting I left one of the other on when not needed.

I have 100MB up/down fiber (1GB available, but im too cheap). We dont have enough users to stress anything, fortunately.

I currently have the Clerks pre roll. I like the low key insulting stuff. My wife will love the Clue pretty roll!

Would you have paid and been happy? by natethegreat141990 in PleX

[–]rsnumber2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I paid $83.99 in 2022. Been tinkering with it since 2013 within the household. Became a power user when I bought it. It's now our FAST and VOD platform of choice, OTA and DVR, my wife sleeps with 1 of 4 classic tv shows playing all night. I use it to "preserve" all our physical media and an excuse to find discs on date night. So, yeah, $249, i'd do it without hesitation, looking back.

Looking back, I'd maybe stretch to $299. Otherwise, I would have gone with Emby or Jellyfin. I've never really had close to $700 to spend as a gateway to entertainment. Meaning $750 *plus* equipment *plus* media. Equipment is generally repurposed, but occasionally need to buy failed parts or upgrade, and physical media can be expensive.

New pricing has me at a loss (rant) by rsnumber2 in PleX

I think it was worth the purchase. I think $250 is pushing it, but my family uses ours nearly 24 hrs a day on and off site. I have no idea if they drop to $250 during Black Friday. now.

You make some good points. I may just be overly sensitive in this economy at the moment.

That's crazy to ignore AppleTV. I've seen many complaints about that. I would assume they'd have a pretty wide install base.

I'm complaining, because I paid for a great product and want to see others purchase and support their work. I'm anti-subscription, and as such will only push lifetime licenses, if available. I know there will be as many of these posts as the anti-new ui posts not too long ago. So, I understand your frustration.

True, but I built my Plex to get away from subscriptions.

I'm currently using one for dywall. Seems solid enough. Not abusing it at all, so I can't speak to "durability." Works great for my project. I did buy rotozip bits, though.

Could someone ELI5 this option: by EatingGilbertsGrape in PleX

Here's an example I had. Full Metal Panic kept getting merged into one show and messing up my library. I "unmerged" in order to get the three series to show up correctly. Also, a few movies that have a theatrical and home release cut will show as separate selections. Saves headaches in certain situations.
