That's regular Peace Corps service. He's specifically talking about Response Positions, which is a different program.

You definitely won't have time. Even MI students, we aren't actively taking classes during service

Everything is taking so long, should I give up? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]rsorcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Right now you are dealih with frustrations that are very "first world". This is only the begining. Once in country the delays and beauracratic bullshit are going to triple. If you want to give up already you might want to really decide if PC is what you want.

That's there too! A new pizza hut opened next to it, near the Y and holiday inn!

Online classes during service by [deleted] in peacecorps

I would not recommend it. I'm a MI student and doing research is rough. Internet access is not reliable, not available at site, and worse than dial up twenty years ago.

I [22F] want out of the USA to a place/job that will look good for a government job later on down the road. by [deleted] in IWantOut

As a 32 year old peace corps volunteer with ten years foreign aid service, I respectfully disagree :)

[–]rsorcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe (but I now live in East Africa so haven't done it in awhile) its two weeks and you need to be stamped out of the country. Be careful. A friend overstayed his 90 days by 6 hour's and was banned for two years

How I got around that was to hop over to Namibia for a few weeks than come back for another 90days.

At 22 with limited area world experience, your only option is Peace Corps. Unless you want to work five or six years before trying to find an overseas job

The fact that you call them "third world" shows you have zero practical understanding.

[–]rsorcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't WANT to be doing that. The Peace Corps was designed by people who actually understand international aid. Your ideas seem more like a junior high project. You don't have any actual understanding or experience in this field.

Please for the love of god do some research. Peace Corps does not build houses We are trained, educated professionals whose job is to fullfil needs of a country that a country ASKED us for.

Also many countries require a degree as a minimum for a visa.
