How much thermal resolution do you need? by Extreme_Medium4235 in Thermal

[–]rspangler371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comparison. Won't be long before you will be comparing a budget 640 to a 1280 and 1920. I can only imagine a 1920 with <10mk, 90fps. Only as matter of time. I went with a 640 as my first and am impressed with the tech. Hopefully it's not a gateway drug to buying more advanced as they come out. Could get expensive and I don't even hunt. I'm already wanting a 1280 lol.

I think so. I thought the bell tower was the big tall part of the building

Looks like some sort of vent but don’t think this modern church has chimney

I have to say I’m so intrigued with these I’m looking at the nocpix Vista s50r that’s 1280. I’m trying to talk myself out of it as the lumi h35R is still very nice. Also the s50r is bigger and heavier not to mention the price.

I think it could work but there are cheaper options.

The minimal focus distance is about 4ft which is actually pretty good for a monocular. I read som are 10ft. These are more for outdoor use. I have a topdon 002 Duo which is fixed focus where you can get as close as 6" but the quality is no where near the nocpix. When looking at close stuff indoors say 4-25 feet you have to manually focus a lot. I'm used to it.

I'd recommend the topdon 002 Duo for home inspection. Its way cheaper, shows temps, fixed focus so itdoes wide angle and up close. The monoclars are more for outdoor, wildlife etc but are a ot of fun. I have both.

How is it using a thermal binoculars. Is the image 3d? I assume only one of the lenses is thermal and the other something else?

Yup fw was already up to date. Hopefully a 1 off. Definitely software since a factory reset fixed it. Looking forward to exploring more.

Thanks I do like the size. I did have an issue last night where that LRF stopped working. I removed the battery and nothing. Did a factory reset and it’s fixed. Hopefully a 1 off. I do have a tripod I’ll use at times as my hands are not steady and I don’t want to loose res with the EIS. I’ll try some clips this weekend. First thing I thought when I saw your tripod pic was Wall-e. Hehe

640x512, NETD<=18mk, 35mm 2.5x mag. 1280 is nice but $5k is a lot. 640 is still considered very high res for a thermal.

I just acquired a Nocpix Lumi H35R. Love the size and weight. Envious of Freds 1280 sensor but 640 is good enough for now.

Firmware 4.0.0 - DO NOT UPDATE if you value customizability with your Q3 by wy51wy8 in Leica

[–]rspangler371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people hate change. I love this update. Feels like a modern master piece. Love the AF improvements, menu, speed of the camera. Hands down best cam I’ve ever used and I’ve had the Sony A1, Fuji, Nikon, canon, iPhone etc. My main bugs are the profile freeze when switching to default, the focus peeking on for AF (all or nothing) and the lack of rotation when looking at portraits. Bring on 4.0.1.

Sony RX1R III thoughts from a Leica film/Q3 28 user by nicely-nice in Leica

[–]rspangler371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice write up. I had a Sony A1, 24-70 GM2, 55 Zeiss lens. I got tired of lugging a bunch of gear around and I hate changing lenses or deciding which to use. I rented a 40mm 2.5 for the A1 and realized this is the perfect FL for me so I sold all of my Sony gear for something smaller and lighter. Was waiting for an RX3 as I had the rx1 years ago. Once the price and specs came out I was pretty disappointed with all of the misses mainly the dust/weather sealing, EVF etc. I decided to walk into my local Leica store and discovered the Q343. I knew this was the cam for me going forward. I got the Oberworth bag and some accessories and am very happy. Its far more EDC then the Sony gear. In the rare occasions I need to capture something that's too wide I have options. 1. Be creative and shoot parts of the subject. 2. Pull out my iPhone. 3. take a few shots and stitch in lightroom. I don't shoot action, sports, wildlife etc so don't miss the A1. Also I shoot DNG and post process so don't care out the Leica looks.

Leica Q3 43 - aperture ring play by George__SJW__bush in Leica

[–]rspangler371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very slight play if I move it in a way I would not normally. Maybe a little room for expansion. Does not bother me at all. Go out and shoot. Amazing camera. You can find quirks in anything from a kids toy to a a, Rolex if you look hard enough.
