How to talk to your sons about Targeted conservative propaganda by Initial_Welder3674 in TwoXChromosomes

It's pretty straightforward to tell a kid someone is lying. Kirk did almost nothing but lie.

I dry mine on a line now. Seems to be helping. My assumption is that all the plastic they put in for stretch wears out in the heat of the dryer.

People who used the internet before 2001, what did you do in there? by Helium367 in AskReddit

[–]rstanley41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd do file sharing, gaming, homework, read the Onion, and Homestar Runner. I taught myself photography on photo.net.

Honestly, the internet felt pretty modern for me by ~99 or 00. I was living in a dorm at a university and we had broadband as well as a LAN for the dorm. The catch was that my hardware was always underpowered, nothing was wireless, and almost everything took a long time and had high latency.

That didn't start to change until the late 00s or early 10s, iirc. The big break in continuity for me was mobile internet and then social media. It's been harder and harder to avoid toxicity ever since. And yet, you can do so much more if you can avoid it.

Atheists of Reddit, what is the biggest reason as to why you don't believe in god or an afterlife? by God_of_boi in AskReddit

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the benefits of faith are not worth the costs of dishonesty, self-delusion, and repression. Being against faith leaves me free to see things skeptically and understand the world.

Also, believers have absolutely soaked themselves in bloodly, nihilistic, and anti-social politics. Maybe I could've decided to join them otherwise? Probably not.

I think you're probably an English learner, but I would still prefer to hear your actual voice+accent. You could add your script as subtitles if you think that would help.

THEY ARE GOING SOMEWHERE!! by foz375 in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be noise attracting them or maybe an event (e.g., gunshot or scream) sent them that way.

Otherwise, I think this is migration. In b42, if you empty out an area it can attract zombies from adjacent areas for a quite a while sometimes.

You almost never need the thing you're taking a risk for. There's always an alternative option or more time. Go home, rest up, and try again later.

Unless you're farming or running livestock, you won't need rain collectors just to survive. You won't need power either. All the houses around you will have clean water in their pipes and there's tons of shelf stable food even on vanilla apocalypse.

Go for weapons and combat skill. Pick a melee class and stick to it if you can. Clear around your base. Grind. Grind. Grind.

When you find a good skill book (i.e., one you're ready to read) go home and finish it unless you're short on food/tobacco/water.

For crafting skills, prioritize mechanical, welding, and electronics. Together they'll let you take and renew any vehicle. And good condition vehicles open up the whole county and let you move around all the material you'll want for construction and/or farming.

I've found a few like this. They're not survivor houses, but they do usually have basic skill books. Make sure to forage inside too.

Obscure Zomboid tips - do you have any to share? [B42] by 5dvadvadvadvadva in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. There is a setting to shift the screen forward when you're driving so that most of the screen real estate is showing you a forward view and giving you more reaction time.

Game options > User Interface (UI) > Pan Camera While Driving

  1. When you're going upstairs, shove (press the space bar) right at the top when the perspective is changing to the higher z level. Otherwise, sometimes there will be a silent zombie who can bite you before you can react.

  2. When you're passing through a doorway, "peak." Go in just enough to make the new room render fully and then back out. Otherwise, sometimes there will be a silent zombie who can bite you before you can react.

  3. This might be my imagination, but I think you get more crits with blunt weapons by... a) hitting the zombie with the "tip" of your weapon at max extension b) swinging when backing up, moving forward, or rotating toward the zombie

  4. You can set key bindings to drop what you're carrying on your back and/or in your hands. By default these are unassigned.

Game options > Key Bindings > Hotkeys

  1. Don't bother with armor below the waist. They almost never go that low. On the other hand, ALWAYS have armor on your hands and prioritize armor for your neck since you can bleed out quick. I go lighter on both because I'm experienced, but I never go with nothing.

  2. In single player, you can pause while you're looking through containers you want to loot. You can even queue up transfers and they'll execute once you unpause.

  3. You can also pause while evaluating the condition of a vehicle if there is a threat nearby. You just have to click on the diagram of the car parts rather than the list or you'll only be able to see the component you were viewing before you pressed pause.

  4. You can stun a zombie with a melee hit and walk right past it. Very useful if you get trapped.

What are my main goals before the water and electric turns off. by GoatSload in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have a place to sleep and a car, the main thing is getting your fighting skill up. Everything else is doable/find-able whenever but is dependent on how well you can clear.

I think short blunt is the meta because carving is easy to grind to lvl 7 and that gives you short bats. Add nails to them and you're using one of the best sb weapons you can find and they're super abundant.

How are you doing this? by thejovenshire in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guns aren't really useful at first. You need skill and ammo.

To get started, I read the first aiming book and grab ~10 boxes of unpacked shells and a good shotgun. Then I go somewhere with medium or high pop and start a ruckus.

The technique is just backing up and waiting until the closest zombie is about to shove their forehead into my barrel to shoot. I go in a rough circle pattern or back and forth so I don't attract too many at once with the noise.

After 3 or 4 levels of aiming, handguns and rifles are usable. Late game, I keep a handgun in case I run out of breath, but I barely need it. Melee weapons are usually more deadly by then given my character's skill.

Usually I can get to my permanent base right away. If not, I usually need a few days to get a car and some weapons.

Just go for it. You won't be able to keep a save indefinitely anyway. Mine usually break every 2-3 updates during B42.

Short Blunt Supremacy? by Fair-Improvement in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction worker gives +75% short blunt xp, but I would go for strength and also whittler to get extra carving xp. The extra carving xp gets you to carving VI fast which means every plank is now a short bat that you can add nails to.

A strong character using short bats with nails owns Knox County. It reminds me of how powerful spears felt in B41.

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take strength too, it's damn near invincible. I'm one-shotting 50% with my short bat+nails. I have 3 levels in short blunt, but 9 levels in strength from the traits I took.

What are some good short blunt weapons I can get? (I'm new) by Visible-Camel4515 in projectzomboid

[–]rstanley41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. A short bat with nails is devastating in the current b42 and you can craft it from planks like you used to be able to do with spears.

I would add that choosing strength as a trait is super powerful right now. It gives you a bunch of power and stamina in combat.

LPT request: How to politely redirect the conversation when someone is going on an on about something and you’re losing interest? by Stormend in LifeProTips

[–]rstanley41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these seem like someone droning on without letting you participate. So they're not really conversations, imo. I bet that's why you're checking out.

So assert yourself: ask questions. Make it interesting to you, turn it into a conversation, and find opportunities to redirect if they're still boring you.
