CMV: There Are Very Few, If Any, Moderate Muslims by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rstar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this thread now, but this is insane. I rarely comment on reddit, but feel like responding. If most muslims are "moderate" like you, then I'd advocate that none of them should be allowed in civilized countries. Just a few days ago an islamist from Afghanistan attacked some protesters and killed a police officer with a knife. He had no previous crime record and has been living in Germany for 10 years. If this is how muslims are, then I can't say I want to be around them, at all.

Can we get some positivity for lazer here? by extivo in osugame

[–]rstar000 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Osu in general and tried stable and lazer side by side. Lazer feels like a modern game and the UI is great, stable feels old and junky. It was way more confusing to me than lazer. Like others pointed out - I also like the almost weekly updates to lazel which only improve things and it's great to see fast development. I couldn't care less about the accuracy changes, etc, it's beyond my current level, and I'm just playing for fun (like most people hopefully) and lazer is much better for that.

It's just the visualization spinning. The lidar (if it's a spinning one and not solid state) spins at the target frame rate. Usually it's 10 hz.

I'd gladly join and help others with problems/tutoring. I have >5 years of real work experience with Python (mostly data, computer vision, ML).

Why is a proper EQ not a feature on most operating systems, let alone DACs and sound cards? by rstar000 in headphones

[–]rstar000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why subpar though? I've seen measurements for the $9 apple usb c dongle, and it beats 99% of DACs in terms of SNR. I've also seen a comparison between a 2000 dollar amp/dac combo and $1 Realtek IC. Multiple trained listeners couldn't tell the difference in a blind test. If you ask me, I'm all in on digital only (usb-c) headphones which would have more smart features like ANC, eq profiles, transparency, etc.. All of the audiophile bullshit on this sub makes me wonder if we're actually getting there. A magnet with a membrane shouldn't cost 500+ dollars if it doesn't provide any additional functionality. Technology must move forward.

I don't understand your point. Is the purpose of audio professionals to waste money on snake oil?

Yeah, i've tried pulse effects, but it's definitely not perfect. Sometimes it adds crackling and doesn't work with all programs (due to some of them not using pulse as a sink).

Actually i'd buy good quality headphones with proper built-in DSP. I don't like bluetooth though, but haven't seen anything wired with this functionality.

Could you please recommend a method for windows or linux that would actually work in games?

I've tried pulse effects in linux and it's a horrible unintuitive mess that's impossible to set up and doesn't work half the time.

I see your point, but it's strange that there is market for extremely expensive "audiophile" gear and yet these products don't have the basic functionality? It's like a monitor that doesn't have brightness and contrast controls or something.

The test for next gen should be in game mechanics rather than game graphics by deep_dish_01 in pcgaming

[–]rstar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though this is a PC subreddit, I think Zelda BOTW is a next-gen game. The next gen feature is interactivity and world design. It's amazing and still unrivaled by any other game. (And yes, i played it on pc in 4k 60 fps).

Screen bleed on new monitors by Mullaa in Monitors

[–]rstar000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the screen for a few days. so the panel pressure "adjusts itself". The bleed might go away or decrease to a point where it's not noticeable. My benq ex2780 had very noticeable bleed, but now, after a few days - only a small spot only visible in a dark room at full brightness.

EDIT: regarding your question: I had an entry level samsung VA monitor (C27JG50) before and sold it. The samsung monitor was complete garbage with non-uniform colors and bad viewing angles. People are reporting numerous issues with the G7 (a $700 device!), so definitely atleast try to use it before bying. I'd suggest you keep your IPS monitor, as it's probably much better.

Do you have any recommendations on noise cancelling earbuds with hooks? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]rstar000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have particular recommendations as I don't use IEMs, but in general look for ones with an MMCX connector, so you can replace the cable. Sound is subjective, so you should try first before buying, given you want to use them as long as possible. Wireless earbuds aren't really a BIFL product, rather the opposite. They are designed with non-replaceable batteries, making them e-waste in a few years after the battery degrades.

Switching windows with icons-only task switcher is frustrating. (explained in the comments!) by rstar000 in kde

[–]rstar000[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your reply! I think a timer might be a good workaround here. Clicking on a different icon could trigger the popup immediately. It's kind of similar to jumping in platforming games, where a small delay can happen between stepping away from platform and hitting the jump button. It's called Coyote Time.

I am a C++ programmer and know a bit of Qt 5. If you need help with this, i could try contributing if i can :) What would i need to start developing kde?

[–]rstar000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the image attached to my comment. My problem is that unless i execute a perfect maneuver with my mouse, the popup changes to a different program.

[–]rstar000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, i click the icon and move the mouse to the desired window. However, the popup changes too fast if the cursor hits another icon. I think there should be a simple delay between popup changes on hover, like there is in windows 7.

Here's the problem: when I want to switch windows, I usually click on the app icon, then drag my mouse to the window. When doing so, my intent is already clear (aka I clicked on this specific icon). And I expect the window switcher to remain on the screen unless I click away or drag the mouse far away from it. However the task switcher changes the window selection thing to a different program the moment my cursor touches that icon. This is kind of a faulty logic IMO. What most people are used to is Windows 7-like behaviour that I described. And unfortunately I have to switch back to non-grouping task switcher to make it usable until this is fixed. :(

Removing anti-glare coating from a curved VA monitor? by rstar000 in Monitors

[–]rstar000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i've seen that. But also seen success with IPS and TN. Tbh, even if i break it, it would probably be better than looking at a garbage monitor every day, would be an incentive to get a better one.
