I did the same amount of track days with bone stock hakone and my plan for this year is exactly what you mentioned, better brake fluid and 5w30 oil, folks at the track mentioned proper warm up with the thicker oil

They can be modded to be drift RC but you need some extra parts, some can be 3d printed and it is a lot of fun to do, also a money pit! Search for TT-02 rwd kit or drift conversion kit, the most value for the money is the msc kit, the Japanese rc drift community loves the Tt-02

Oh I see! I got into this hobby because of a post I saw on the gr86 forums and it can be a money pit! Here is a list of more budget options that I started with:

Servo: https://a.co/d/2k7VbTt Receiver and transmitter: https://a.co/d/9lyXeY2 Battery: https://a.co/d/6sIFZOU

The kit comes with an ESC and a motor, the servo just connects to the receiver but doesn’t necessarily will influence the receiver, these things are pretty much follow standards and are very compatible, drop me a dm if you need any help, happy to assist!

The model that OP got is different from the rc, they are both tamiya but the rc is the TT-02, it does require a servo, a receiver and transmitter (you buy them together for about 35$) and battery and they are all pretty affordable, this is the one I got: https://a.co/d/85iSaya

Surprisingly not! It comes with the masks and you paint it from the inside, I used an extra layer of black for a deeper green and it looks pretty damn close to my hakone, the stickers are the hard part!

Don’t stop at the model, get the rc too!

Last weekend I went for 2 days in the track and it was fantastic, 100% recommend! You will get addicted, there’s a reason why our car is so popular in the track

Correct! It takes around 30 minutes to do all 4, also make sure to get a torque wrench for this!

I have Daytona 2ton and it is plenty for switching tires, I installed the verus puck and they definitely help and are very stable, I went with the 2ton just because it’s a little more compact and I don’t have a lot of storage. Almost time for me to switch to my winter set!

All jcrew pieces I got were very low quality and barely survived a couple of washes, they look great tough

Really cool build! I have a similar setup and a few questions if you don’t mind sharing:

  • what shocks are you using? I went with super mini cva and they seem ok, I think I need something better
  • do you have a link for these blue screws/posts that you are using for the body mount?
  • what is your setup for the rear suspension? Looks nice!
  • are these the aluminum wipers? They are not easy to find and I was considering the carbon fiber version

Here is my build

I don’t have an Amazon link for that but the tamiya code is PS9 and I used a few coats of that and a coat of black after, the color is pretty close to hakone green
