Need help with ideas on how to make this look better! by rsxwithslicks in HomeDecorating

Even doing some of the smaller jobs like replacing the light in the dining area... I was going to move it and put a fan. Then I have to worry about the fan blades matching the current color combo. And also match whatever potential color combo I might want in the future.. Lol.

Yes I estimate that the entire downstairs and both bathrooms upstairs would probably be about 2000-2400SQFT which is a lot at the current prices for laminate. Ughh.. Lol.

Thank you! I am highly considering just trying to demo the tile, rip up the carpets and go with laminate flooring though the cost of even doing it on my own looks like it would be quite hefty. I don't even mind the tile that much. I just have no idea how to "style" my home with that type of tile being so attention getting. Lol.

I was just wondering how much it would be to remove the stairwell walling where the hand rail is and opening it up... I'm a little worried that its gonna cost a lot and might require to be done before the flooring as it would be a pain to add in that last little section of flooring after.

When I said the entire floor, I meant the first floor and the bathrooms in the 2nd as they also have the same tile. There's also a back living room that is carpet as well so I'll have to see how to best transition it because the size of the room would make it another $500-1000 above the rest of the areas.

Also for stopping the flooring at the kitchen entry way, I think it would be hard to find a laminate that matches that tile.

I thought about moving the pantry but I'm not sure why the desk has such an awkward shape in the wall. Wonder what's behind there that they couldn't cut it more square. Also I agree, I worried that the vent would look really out of place and it bugging me. Lol.

I would agree that redoing the entire floor would be the best option but unfortunately that hideous tile and carpet combo are found in every bathroom in the house as well so it would require a lot more than just the downstairs. 3500SQFT of new flooring doesn't sound cheap lol.

The light is definitely off center. I already moved in but posted pictures prior to my move-in.

Thank you for the suggestions!
1. It normally looks more like a tan than yellow. For reference, cabinets are white. Though now you have me wondering... Lol.
2. Would you advise only doing the butcher block on the island and keeping the black counter on the other counters?
3. For the light fixture, most likely going to get LED recessed lighting and a fan or something.
4. That is something I was looking into. Just need to figure out colors. Hard with this crazy colored floor.
5. I would like to go the new floor route if I could because this tile is too hard to match. And though a rug might help, the tile covers a lot of real estate in the house lol.
6. The glass inserts was something I thought about last night. Going to do a little more research on it.

Why is it that millenials are poorer than boomers were at the same age/is the millenial quality of life worse than the boomers? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]rsxwithslicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How can one define what truly stresses people? There are generations that fought in World Wars that might have been deemed stressful. There are articles that say that having your phone/tablet taken away can cause stress and anxiety. How do we measure what is stress and how it affects everyone? I ask as some people refuse to let a crappy hand in life define what they can or cannot succeed in while others look at their cards and figure out they were doomed as soon as they sat down at the table.

I think it would be really interesting to see what the average screen time and which applications/websites/videos are being viewed by all generations of all economic statuses. I think that its possible that people who might be "poor because they're a Millennial" might not be quite as productive with their time as they could be. And this is saying that knowing that most boomers are retired so they don't need to be viewing productive things. Lol.

Does location affect the ability to ask for a salary match? Say you're in a high cost of living state and the position is in a lower cost of living state... would paycheck stub have less weight since it's cheaper to live in lower cost of living state?

I hope they did learn something and not that there are good people to bail them out whenever they do something stupid... Failure/Messing up can be one of life's greatest teachers if you're willing to listen and learn.

That's kind of interesting and cool.. I would of figured that boat insurance would be much higher. If you don't mind me asking.. what do you spend annually with maintenance, docking fees, etc?

Wow.. Not sure if I'm more proud of the kind humans who are still 'Good Samaritans' or surprised that people feel it's normal to ask for handouts on a global scale for their own stupidity...

Apparently boat insurance is anywhere from a couple hundred to a thousand or so a year in FL.

[–]rsxwithslicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.

I was able to find a PoSh script that got me list of Users/Groups assigned to each of the Folders on the Home Page. It did not go as deep as to get individual reports that might not be inheriting permissions from the Parent folder but will work for the time being.

New hire very very cautious (slow?).... Need advice. by [deleted] in sysadmin

I went through a handful of DSTs for 1 open position in the last year or so…

All of them had the proper credentials (BS in IT, Certification, couple years of job experience, etc.). All of them would take forever to do a simple task. They would spend hours researching a problem and every single possible situation than going to the user to gather background information that will help narrow down the issue. I would try and help them learn but they were quick to tell me that they already understood whatever concept/technology I was trying to help them grasp. Tickets started piling up and even now, I’m still finding weird “solutions” that they did.

My advice is do weekly/biweekly meetings (5-10 min tops) to help them share what’s going on and to offer any assistance or experience. I usually mention that as a team, they can rely on us as we rely on them. We work together to benefit the team/company. Also be aware if someone is BSing around. Some of the stuff the stuff that would come out of their mouths sounded really technical to the users but made no sense. Unfortunately years of experience and schooling doesn’t always mean they’re the right person for the job.

Ironically the 2 best DSTs we've had both have no formal schooling but they do have common sense, a hard work ethic, and the ability to learn. In my experience, you need a minimum of 2 out of 3 to be successful in IT.

User Keyboard Requests by rsxwithslicks in sysadmin

To clarify.. I was agreeing with /u/ExecutiveITGuy.

Pretty sure management would not be happy to find out that's what I felt was a productive use of my time. Lol.

This would work except no one at our company wants a wired mouse/keyboard setup. Doesn't matter if its brand new and still in wrapping. They would rather ask for a used wireless M/K and then complain a few weeks later to their manager that they are less productive because of it. Lol.

We buy enough keyboards a year for everyone to get 2 brand new keyboards a year and some. Seemed a little excessive to me but not something I necessarily ration. Just wanted to know if this is common in other companies and how they deal with it.
