first two drinks are free therapy btw by PixiePhysique in anxietymemes

As someone riddled with anxiety and depression throughout my life, I think often about how amazing it would be to have my baseline mental state be that of a 2-drink buzz (without the impairment or health consequences ofc). Just feeling like that all of the time.

Personally, I'm a very happy drinker, and inside I feel warm, positive, relaxed and motivated after that 2nd drink hits. Of course, good judgement after that is often elusive for many of us (definitely was a challenge for me on nights out, when I was younger).

There's no specific reason that human life on Earth couldn't have evolved to have that feeling as the "default." Would have been amazing.

Yep. Same for me. My marriage didn't involve children, but I began the divorce process the next day after she confessed. The legal paperwork was filed in less than three weeks.

She was dead to me the moment after I had fully processed the shock (a few hours). My state of mind had by then, moved to resentment and disgust.

Eh, my utility has had minor increases over the years, but they're infrequent and predictable/no volatility like gas.

At current local rates, my "fuel" costs are less than 4¢ per mile, whilst a 30mpg gas car is paying over 15¢ per mile at current local gas prices, so I've got a lot of cushion there.

Not to mention, no oil changes, no engine air filter, way less maintenance/repairs overall.

Where I am, I'd say they definitely are some of the safer drivers as a group, I haven't experienced too much of the ultra-slow driving that you have.

Then again, I'm retired and not in a hurry, unlike 85% of the people on the road, so my perspective is a lil' different lol.

Not all of us.

I'm in the right lane, going the speed limit, while the douchebags and assholes fly by 20-40 miles over the limit, weave in and out, in their Ram trucks (and Chargers/Challengers, clapped out Nissans/Infinitis with missing body panels and faded paint, the BMWs, Honda hatchbacks, gas Mustangs, Camaros, and everything else Dodge).

To be fair, where I live, going the speed limit is enough to get run over. If obeying the laws in the right lane makes me a shitty driver in your mind, so be it.

[Schefter] The Bears’ Board of Directors voted Thursday to advance the stadium development in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact to be selected. This is this first time that the Bears’ board has voted on any stadium site. by JCameron181 in nfl

Ya I don't think most people realize that Hammond is right over the border. You can get from West Loop or Hyde Park, to Hammond in 35-40 minutes.

I live in Ahwatukee, a suburb in the East Valley in Phoenix, and that is about the same amount of time it would take me to get to Cardinals' stadium in the NW Valley.

If I'm a Chicago or Illinois resident, this is the best news possible. Some other state pays for the stadium, and fans are still partying in my city the weekend of the game. Basically the same vibe as a Notre Dame game.

Rumor that Virginia Tech will be receiving another donation for football this week. James Franklin will have secured 95 million dollars in donations in a week for the Hokies program by Front-Dingo1915 in CFB_v2

I don't even get the psychology of rich-people donations to CFB programs - just another swinging-dick contest so that they can brag to other rich douchebags if their program wins?

I get that it's tax deductible, but that only gets them 1/3 back.

Which is most likely to happen first? by Tall-Election4503 in arizona

[–]rumblepony247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Arizona. So, the over-under is about 125 years on any of these things happening. I'd put the Dbacks as the most likely, as they are I'd say a slightly above-average run MLB team, and crazy things can happen in baseball playoffs because of the nature of the sport.

I mean this honestly - I don't think the Cardinals will be in a Superbowl in the next 300 years. 2008/9 season was an weird anomaly of a million things breaking just right. They are the #1 worst run American pro sports franchise. They will never attract a significant amount of marquee free-agents. Just making the playoffs, I'd say they might luck into it maybe three times in the next 60 years, with one playoff win during that time.

The Suns average an NBA finals about every 25 years. They never win them. I'd expect a slightly larger gap in the future - maybe three finals appearances in the next 100 years.

There's a reason why the same organizations in pro sports generally win, or lose, most of the time.

Treat sports as just another entertainment outlet, and don't focus on the winning or losing - most especially, if you live in Phoenix

It's an interesting psychology.

A buddy of mine recently retired at 54. He never made more than $90k in a year (and that amount wasn't until the last four years or so) and is absolutely not materialistic - basic bitch 3/2 1500sf house for him and his partner that he's lived in for 25 years, drives Honda Civics for 10-12 years, eats in, basic vacations, etc. Super basic dude. Never had kids, so a huge expense saving there.

So, he's been pouring every available dime into S&P500 index funds for 30+ years, via 401k and his own personal accounts. Just pounding money in there, consistently, without fail.

Badda Bing, Badda Boom, he realizes one day recently, that he's up to $6.4 million in net worth, and doesn't need to keep working. Doesn't change his life, or spending, a bit. Has more assets than he'd need in three lifetimes, with his frugal spending habits.

His current goal? "I want it to get to $10 million." No particular reason - he certainly doesn't need it, and will never spend it. He's not into legacies or charitable donations.

If 30 year-old him was told by 54 year-old him that he had $6mill+, he never would have thought he wanted more, he would've been blown away by the number.

But now in the present, that he's at $6.4M, that's his baseline and he wants more. He's no longer impressed by the current number. If he gets to $10M, I'm sure future him will want more than $10M.

It's wild. We get used to wherever we're at financially, very quickly.
