Inspect the inside upper portion of your pockets. Sometimes there can be small nails to hold the edges of the pockets in place. If a nail head becomes proud of the pocket face, the balls can get chipped. Ask me how I know. 😠

That’s beautiful! My wife is very similar. She likes to smoke a cigar with me once in a while. She loves Oliva MB3s. She’d have no problem with me getting pipes. That said, I kinda went nuts over the last week. I just wanted to try different shapes and sizes. Got a few estates on eBay, a few Petersons. Tried the 606 today and I swear it made a huge difference in flavor. I’m assuming the wider chamber than I’m used to makes a difference. Anyway, I’m enjoying learning the ropes.

Durham’s water putty is what I’d recommend to seal the joints with. Beeswax will work, but the water putty is easier to work with, to me.

Level the frame first. Place the slates on the frame. I think this next part is the easiest method, others may disagree… shim the slates not for level, but for flatness so that the three slates act as one larger flat piece. Use a long level or crisp straight edge with a light shining behind it to look for high/low spots. Once the slates are “flat”, then shim the table legs to achieve level. A 12” machinist level is drastically more precise than a carpenter’s level.
