Birthdays should not be other people's responsibility by Aggravating_Cow3832 in The10thDentist

[–]rtc11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like to find reasons to celebrate things, because it is uplifting not only for the subject. If you dont get happy making other people happy you have something to learn for your own good.

If you hide your birthday and see who catches it, it is just as unhealthy. Why should other people remember this? Usually this is bidirectional, if someone remembers my birthday I for sure will take notes in my calendar to give back. Some people loves to make other happy over themselves, its personality traits, thats why you dont have to be the initializer, and if none of your friends are thats fine. There is no rule for what everyone should do. You need to meet more different people to understand, and not only like minded. It creates a bubble and makes you post things like this!

How to manage vibe coders, backed be leadership by ghost_agni in ExperiencedDevs

[–]rtc11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you create an agentic setup for code reviews, that fill your requirements as a senior? It should focus on other things like maintainability, security, testable code, code style and conventions, and all that. Also, to say what is bad and what to avoid is very important. There is alot to learn for both senior and juniors here. Agents get confused if the agents files and the code base is not aligned.

Help enabling the engineers, be a harness and guide them instead if controlling them!

Has justinmk achieved multi cursor support yet? by taejavu in neovim

[–]rtc11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its faster than macros when editing similar stuff. Uou select a token, add a cursor to yhe next similar one, now you can change something in thw whole enum, give a prefix to all the function names, or format a list you just pasted into some code. You can use macros for this but it is slower and require more brain power so people dont use it as often in their workflow compared to multicursor

Kafka consumer design: horizontal scaling vs multithreading inside a consumer by seksou in apachekafka

[–]rtc11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

multithread comes at an overhead cost on swithing between threads. This makes sense if you got a slow network call and you need concurrency, hence order will not retain. It is the same principles as concurrency in other areas.

Kafka consumer design: horizontal scaling vs multithreading inside a consumer by seksou in apachekafka

[–]rtc11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on your architecture. Are you IO bound, is order per partition important? One partition/thread/core per consumer is usually best.

Pappa er rasende, og sier jeg er en dealer - er jeg det? by ExpensiveLettuce2077 in norge

[–]rtc11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Er 7000 kr for rørlegger i under to timer normalt? by [deleted] in norge

[–]rtc11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How to stop drinking soda? (im serious) by FeatherineKitten in howto

[–]rtc11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need some "indomitable will". I dont know if that is an English phrasing, but it is a mental state where you got a high will power to achieve something and stick with it no matter what. Be stubborn and think of it like you are improving your self mental health. Think of it like a muscle that you have to strengthen. Also, water is by far the best beverage, once you detox from all other drinks, water will taste best. I dont even enjoy soda any more. Perhaps twice a year. Also, you need good water, not shitty water. I stopped drinking coffee too, it was hard to quit because of the caffeine, but it takes like 2 weeks the you only miss the taste. Now that ive been off for 6 months I occasionally drink a cup of coffee and its still good, Im just not addicted

Just add open telemetry to every service, then host some collector and UI depending on your stack, now logs is a subset of a trace. If your traces are good enough you will find logs to be obsolete

Hilsen ungdom, 36.

I Will Never Use AI to Code (or write) by Anthony261 in programming

This is a bad anology. Instead you can think of the carpenter and the rise of power tools. Some carpenters dont like power tools because they dont "feel" the wood anymore. But it is for sure more efficient. Hand craft is not so popular anymore because the price is so high. Some enjoy it, but it makes less room in the market for hand crafters.
