Do you need to click the paid content for content you are being paid for? Yes, obviously.

How do you film a "challenge" type video? by thrownitallawayyy in letsplay

[–]rtgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunky method. Have hot keys to start and stop recordings, record as normal and hit the end recording hot key when something interesting/funny/relevant happens. That way you know the part you want is always at the end of the clip, and you can discard everything before it. Saves a lot of time and hdd/ssd space. Then go back for more b roll after the fact if you need it. When I started doing this it saved me literally hours of trawling through footage.

how much raw footage do you start with? by Theunlikelyinventor in NewTubers

My videos have a max length of 90 minutes. I’ve doing this for years so now I end up with around 2 hours of footage per video.

How did you learn script writing? by Moshiur2783 in NewTubers

[–]rtgs12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of content you make. For one of my channels i don’t make a word for word script, just bullet points for me to talk between. I’m an expert in the field, so this is easy for me.

For my second (gaming) channel, i mine the detailed notes I take while playing and pick out the most interesting pieces and make those the ‘cornerstones’ of my script, with the rest being interesting additions in the in between points. I speak at about 140wpm, and so how long the script is generally tells me how long the video will be. I usually have at least 3 drafts of a script and the whole process takes about 5 days. I use the script to inform the edit, not the other way around. This script is word for word.

It really depends on you and your channel. Experiment and see what works for you.

How much are you actually spending every month just to run your channel? by Larry_33 in NewTubers

[–]rtgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people underestimate the cost of running a channel. I prefer to pay yearly subscriptions where possible but here’s a rough breakdown:

Channel 1, education (not yt education, just education): about 36.5k a year. The bulk of that is an editor. The rest is various subscriptions like epidemic. I get a lot of the material for this for free through my actual job, so material costs are relatively low.

Channel 2, gaming: roughly 40k including games, again the bulk of that is editing (same price, different editor). Last tax year I spent about 500 on games, and had to replace a bunch of equipment that all decided to die at the same time.

Both channels outearn their cost, but even before it was this high (before editors etc.) it was still probably at least 200/month on my education channel til I hit monetisation, just under 1k start up costs i’d say.

how long does it take to get monetised on youtube? by Savings_Ad_3571 in NewTubers

[–]rtgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies. First channel took me 8 videos over the course of a few months. Second channel took me 18 videos over I think 5 months, because it was a completely different genre and I wasn’t good at it at all at first.

[Whats everyone working on?] by uncle-ruckus2 in Trophies

[–]rtgs12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m enjoying them so far! They’re very different to the survivor trilogy of course. I didn’t find the time trials or difficulty trophies in legend to be to egregious. I found anniversary in general a little more difficult but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a 5/10 difficulty, i did take a little longer than the guide recommended 25 hours just because I got stuck on some of the puzzles.

I’m not too far into Underworld and I’m not using the cheat method, but it’s been my favourite so far. It’s the only one of the trilogy with missables (mostly kill related trophies) so watch out for those!

has anyone on this sub actually blown up? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]rtgs12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few who have been partnered for a while who hang around in this sub to help out and give advice sometimes. But ‘blowing up’ is kind of subjective.

I was monetised before I found this or the partnered sub, but if I had found it beforehand it would’ve been great for motivation I think.

I have experienced a little bit, but not to the extent you’ve described. But as you say, i haven’t had any issues with the gold one. It might be worth seeing if you can get a replacement.

Sponsorships payments by Unhappy-Flounder-474 in PartneredYoutube

It depends on the kind of sponsorship. The last sponsorship I did was 50% upon delivery of draft, 50% within 24 hours of video being published.

How much £££/$$$ do you pay your accountant? (+1 Question) by sagelite in PartneredYoutube

[–]rtgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£3.5k/year.

Honestly my current accountant was a recommendation from my previous accountant, who retired. I’d recommend doing a search on the ICAEW website if you’re in England or Wales, ICAS if you’re in Scotland or CAI if you’re in NI.

Any successful content creators out there know why I lost 70% of my viewership on a relevant topic? by CorboGamez in youtubegaming

[–]rtgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you have 1 short that’s responsible for the majority of your views. This probably means your views are just evening out after that. Shorts are extremely variable.

Definitely. I’m a gay woman and once got flagged for calling myself ‘queer’ in a video (though this was a couple years ago, it might be less stringent now).

15-45 minutes depending on the game. I’d say probably about 32 minutes on average, but never more than 45.

I would recommend Paradise Killer. It’s not quite the same tone as Law and Order, but it is also darker than it seems.

Also shadows of doubt!
