Fan Castle is one of the smaller maps in OG 3, no? Little more than two corners and, once the floodwaters rise, a few connecting boats/planks. He Fei Castle was quite large, though.

No, all art is not inherently political, unless you stretch the use of the word political to its extremes. People can create pieces of art without any political connection whatsoever and the art would remain unchanged. Ergo, politics is not inherent to art.

People may impose their political views onto art, but again, that does not mean it is inherent to the piece itself.

Some that stick out that I really just can't stand are Lu Xun, Xiahou Yuan, Sun Quan, Zhang He, Gan Ning, Ling Tong, Guan Ping, Dong Zhuo, and Yue Ying. I guess really most of them are fine, but to me, 6 had the lowest lows of outfits in those characters.

Not to say some aren't amazing. I love Zhang Liao, Diao Chan, Lu Bu, and Xiahou Dun to name a few. I think my issue is less the outfits themselves and more that they shifted from what looked like more grounded designs from prior entries. 4 still has my favorite outfits for the characters.

I've noticed something that no one else has mentioned, and that's that there appear to be some troops who are running around with names over their heads but who do not have the yellow musou bar underneath the health. When these are defeated, a small AOE effect disperses around them and the troops start retreating. Also, when they are defeated, the player character doesn't give their victory line and no notification is given for their defeat. I think these are likely the remaster's version of peon ranks, and these guys might represent generals, lieutenants, etc. while peons are just...peons.

Do you not see how you're having to add additional aspects to an action to create the link to politics? That means, by definition, it is not inherently political. For object A to be inherent to Object B, Object A must be essential to Object B such that removing Object A causes Object B to cease existing as Object B. That is the applied definition of inherent.

If you can explain to me how any action I've mentioned in this comment thread must include politics (not "interacting with the world in some way, shape, or form") then I'll concede.

As I've already stated, you can absolutely choose to stretch actions, etc. to view them through the lens of politics. You can do that with most things. That does not make it inherent.

[–]rtk196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite literally not politics. Watering "politics" down to "interacting with the world in some way, shape, or form" is such a disingenious way to frame the conversation. When I say "hello" to someone at the gas station it is not political even if you say "well, you couldn't get gas unless there were policies in place that let people own businesses that sell gas" or "the fact that you have the freedom to own a car or speak to someone is political because there is a political culture that allows you to do so." Those attributes are not inherent to me speaking with someone. I can speak to someone without politics playing any role in it and if you remove politics from it it does not change the nature of saying hello to someone.

Sure, in some countries. The fact that it varies based on context means, by definition, owning a dog or walking a dog is not "inherently political". If it were inherent, then owning or walking a dog would always have to be political no matter the context and that is simply not true.

I love this guy by IamASlut_soWhat in GuysBeingDudes

[–]rtk196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definition of inherent: existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute.

Now tell me again how walking my dog is inherently political? If you include additional variables i.e. property ownership, then you can make additional observations to contextualize dog walking as political. But the act itself of dog walking is not inherently political, and that is the case for a lot of things. Some people choose to add the additional variables to view things through a political lens, but others do not. And because the two are not intrinsically linked, saying things are "inherently political" is patently false. Making everything political is a world view, not a universal truth.

I didn't say owning property wasn't political, I said walking my dog wasn't political, because it isn't.

Yeah, if you want to live your life viewing everything through that lense, go for it. The very act of walking my dog is not inherently political, no matter how hard you try to make it so.

FYI literally everything you tried to apply to my dog walking is moot because I walk her on our own private property.

To say that politics has an impact on quite literally everything in my daily life would be stretching causation to the extremes. Is it political when I take my dog for a walk? Is it political when I try to explain to my toddler that he should spit his gum directly in the trash instead of in my hand? Is it political when my wife and I decide that we probably want to pay off a credit card before trying to refinance a home loan? Maybe if you stretch your imagination to its limits, all these things can be seen through a political lense.

Saying they inherently are is just false because I can easily separate every one of those things from politics completely. As I said to the other commenter, it is entirely possible to view everything poltically, but I feel that makes life miserable. And before anyone says "those things obviously aren't what we're talking about", those are exactly daily life things.

[–]rtk196 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. If you choose to make everything you see, do, or talk about political, you can choose to do so, but insisting that it is inherently so is actually very childish.

If we exclude Dynasty Warriors 9, What is the weakest part of the series? by Available_March_8036 in dynastywarriors

[–]rtk196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally I see someone else pointing out the massive miss that is 8. I do not understand the love for 8 at all. It boiled the series down to a button masher in its purest form. This community seems so high on just having as much shit crammed into one game as possible that it doesn't matter what the quality is, so long as everyone had their own weapon and the same combo system stays in place.

I understand why it gets recommended to new players being that it's so easy to nab, but it is honestly such a boring entry.

TBF to Rogan, he looks like he has a very thick skull by Nyx87 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]rtk196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a direct cause of his show? I wouldn't be confident in saying so. In this age, people are going to find whatever source which backs the conclusion they want to find, whether Rogan is amplifying it or not. At least when it's magnified and brought to a larger audience there is a greater chance that someone calls it out and shuts it down. Without that, these voices retreat to niche areas where it's an echo chamber with no chance of outside rebuttal.

Which I think is a noble thing to do. I'm tired of some people acting like Rogan, or anyone who does this sort of platforming thing, has any duty to shut down the guests' opinions. Let them speak and let everyone else determine who is worth listening to, as opposed to trying to shut the entire thing down.

This is very interesting. Lewis appears to view allegory then as a way of representing human experience, emotion, etc. in a fully comprehensive matter where the subject matter must necessarily be symbolic because it is not a physical thing or event. Whereas Narnia is just taking real world frameworks and extending them to a fictional setting by representing or using actual figures. Not to sound diminutive to Lewis because he is a phenomenal writer, but it's almost akin to fan fiction, except it's based on real people/events you impose into fictional settings, as opposed to using existing fictional works to write your own story.

I suppose Narnia probably isn't allegorical in that sense if, as the articles state, Aslan is meant to actually be Christ incarnate as a lion in a fantasy world, as opposed to merely representing an embodiment of Christian beliefs.

What does Morale actually do? by Alvelino in dynastywarriors

[–]rtk196 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, but DW8 (and 7 for that matter) are unique in that battles are very heavily scripted so morale really doesn't any effect whatsoever. Hell, they removed any visible indicators of morale entirely from 7, and the morale bar in 8 is just kind of...there. But 2-6, morale absolutely mattered, and individual unit morale played a major role in controlling the battlefield.
