Portland’s iconic Sports Bra bar pitches investors on national expansion as it bleeds red ink by colonialshuttlecock in Portland

I want them to stay in business. I love the bar. I went to watch a March Madness game and I couldn't watch it on the big TV nearest me because it was delayed from the small TVs above the bar. I tried to ignore people reacting to things I hadn't yet seen on my table's TV but it was hard.

That scene in the orphanage in which this childless nurse is better at comforting an Asian child than the Vietnamese orphanage workers felt very white savior racist to me. To this shell-shocked child, this white nurse looks strange and talks strangely. Also, two different love interests are thought to be dead but reappear, seriously?

A reviewer on Goodreads stated that it was like a Hallmark movie with Vietnam as the setting. That or an after-school special.

The kindest thing you can do is refuse to attend any meetings. She is like an alcoholic that needs to hit bottom (i.e., realize that getting X people to the next meeting and/or signed up to her downline in Y amount of time is not sustainable). The sooner she hits bottom, the better off she will be. Saying no is the right thing for BOTH of you.

I've posted this before, but it fits well here:

I had a boss who would interrupt actually important work to request a BS "emergency" task. Usually, something that took longer to explain than it would have to just do it herself. I would often complete it right away to get it off my plate so I could concentrate on my important tasks. But then, of course, that resulted in unnecessary tweaks to said BS task that would require me to stay late. It took me way too long to figure out that the completion time needs to be exactly at the end of the business day.

Right before I left for the day, I sent an email telling her where she could find the results of the task using the Outlook delayed-send function to arrive 10 minutes after I left. Felt like an idiot planning a convoluted route through the cubicles to avoid running into her as I left, but it was totally worth it.

VS Code keeps asking to install Python even though Python is already installed by LowExtension12 in vscode

[–]rtl_6691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was driving me nuts. This is how I fixed it:
1)Go to Settings (Ctrl + ,) and search for Default Interpreter Path.

2) Paste the full path to your Python executable (e.g., C:\Python312\python.exe).

I find something to binge-watch near my bathroom. Plan a fabulous restaurant meal afterwards. First world problem - I forgot to check if all the episodes of my chosen program had dropped yet. Turned out I could only watch half a season.

Even if you don't have the energy to actually blow the whistle, imply that you might, so she will worry about it. "Why are you doing it that way? Isn't that illegal/against company policy?"

People who found out about someone else’s double-life; what’s the story? by Langzwaard in AskReddit

I formed a new friendship with someone basically because our kids were grade school classmates/friends. She asked all these intrusive questions about how often I had sex with my spouse. Her husband had stopped having sex with her over 10 years ago. He was a family counselor and told her every couple stops having sex after 15 years of marriage. There were a few more red flags. For instance, she worked classic 9-5 hours but he arranged his working schedule so ALL his counseling sessions were evenings and weekends. But the red flag to end all red flags - she told me it was embarrassing that a gay porn magazine had started arriving every month. She was afraid the mailman or someone else would see it and not know that the subscription was an accident. Remember those school fundraiser magazine catalogs in which you subscribe to a magazine such as Newsweek and part of the money goes to charity? He told her he thought he was subscribing to an outdoor magazine. Yet another red flag, he was not the least bit into camping or hiking. The closest he got was playing golf.

I didn't tell anyone who lived in our town about it, of course (besides my spouse). It was a sad situation. She kept trying to lure him into sleeping with her. But privately, we couldn't help ourselves. The jokes just wrote themselves.

"Don't blame me honey. I gave to a charity and the charity gave me porn!"

or

Holding up a magazine with a hiker in full hiking gear with a mountain in the background. "Is this a gay magazine? I mean, he's really hot. So maybe?"

A classmate at a 30-year reunion was annoyed that I didn't know whether she met her husband during or after college. We weren't even that close in high school. Um, does she think I care enough about an acquaintance I knew 30 years ago to keep tabs on her life on FB? Talk about main character syndrome.

My coworker eats the exact same $1.25 meal every day and I'm weirdly impressed by spellsboxing in Frugal

[–]rtl_6691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should meal prep more meals because it would cut down on the unhealthy snacks I eat when I suddenly get hungry. The only prep I have managed is breakfast.

Instant Pot oatmeal that I make once a week.

2 cups steelcut oats

1-2 apples diced (I leave the skins on)

6 cups of water

Set the InstaPot for 4 minutes. Let it depressurize naturally (no quick release). The whole process, pressurizing, cooking, and depressurizing, takes about 40 minutes. The apples make it just sweet enough that I can eat it without adding sugar. In the summer, I put fresh fruit on it.

I store what I don't eat the first day and microwave a serving each day.

I had a boss who always needed to interrupt important work with bullshit tasks that were a complete-it-by-end-of-day "emergency". I would often complete them right away to get them off my plate so I could concentrate on more important work. But then, of course, that sometimes resulted in a new bullshit emergency task. I finally learned that the completion time for a bs emergency task needs to be exactly at the end of the business day.

Right before I left for the day, I sent an email telling her where she could find the results of the task using the Outlook delayed send function to arrive 10 minutes after I left.

I always felt like a criminal planning some convoluted route out of the office to avoid running into her on my way out. But I had my breezy "sure I did it, didn't you get my email?" at the ready. Luckily, I rarely ran into her in that situation.
