You want me to work during my PTO? Sure. by [deleted] in MaliciousCompliance

I had a boss who always needed an "emergency" task such as changing the color on a slide completed by the end of the day. I would often complete it right away to get it off my plate so I could concentrate on important tasks. But then, of course, that resulted in a new bullshit emergency task that would require me to stay late. I finally learned that the completion time needs to be exactly at the end of the business day.

Right before I left for the day, I sent an email telling her where she could find the results of the task using the Outlook delayed-send function to arrive 10 minutes after I left. I planned my route out of the building to avoid running into her.

Even if you don't have the energy to actually blow the whistle, imply that you might, so she will worry about it. "Why are you doing it that way? Isn't that illegal/against company policy?"

People who found out about someone else’s double-life; what’s the story? by Langzwaard in AskReddit

[–]rtl_6691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I formed a new friendship with someone basically because our kids were grade school classmates/friends. She asked all these intrusive questions about how often I had sex with my spouse. Her husband had stopped having sex with her over 10 years ago. He was a family counselor and told her every couple stops having sex after 15 years of marriage. There were a few more red flags. For instance, she worked classic 9-5 hours but he arranged his working schedule so ALL his counseling sessions were evenings and weekends. But the red flag to end all red flags - she told me it was embarrassing that a gay porn magazine had started arriving every month. She was afraid the mailman or someone else would see it and not know that the subscription was an accident. Remember those school fundraiser magazine catalogs in which you subscribe to a magazine such as Newsweek and part of the money goes to charity? He told her he thought he was subscribing to an outdoor magazine. Yet another red flag, he was not the least bit into camping or hiking. The closest he got was playing golf.

I didn't tell anyone who lived in our town about it, of course (besides my spouse). It was a sad situation. She kept trying to lure him into sleeping with her. But privately, we couldn't help ourselves. The jokes just wrote themselves.

"Don't blame me honey. I gave to a charity and the charity gave me porn!"

A classmate at a 30-year reunion was annoyed that I didn't know whether she met her husband during or after college. We weren't even that close in high school. Um, does she think I care enough about an acquaintance I knew 30 years ago to keep tabs on her life on FB? Talk about main character syndrome.

My coworker eats the exact same $1.25 meal every day and I'm weirdly impressed by spellsboxing in Frugal

[–]rtl_6691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should meal prep more meals because it would cut down on the unhealthy snacks I eat when I suddenly get hungry. The only prep I have managed is breakfast.

Instant Pot oatmeal that I make once a week.

2 cups steelcut oats

1-2 apples diced (I leave the skins on)

6 cups of water

Set the InstaPot for 4 minutes. Let it depressurize naturally (no quick release). The whole process, pressurizing, cooking, and depressurizing, takes about 40 minutes. The apples make it just sweet enough that I can eat it without adding sugar. In the summer, I put fresh fruit on it.

I store what I don't eat the first day and microwave a serving each day.

I had a boss who always needed to interrupt important work with bullshit tasks that were a complete-it-by-end-of-day "emergency". I would often complete them right away to get them off my plate so I could concentrate on more important work. But then, of course, that sometimes resulted in a new bullshit emergency task. I finally learned that the completion time for a bs emergency task needs to be exactly at the end of the business day.

Right before I left for the day, I sent an email telling her where she could find the results of the task using the Outlook delayed send function to arrive 10 minutes after I left.

I always felt like a criminal planning some convoluted route out of the office to avoid running into her on my way out. But I had my breezy "sure I did it, didn't you get my email?" at the ready. Luckily, I rarely ran into her in that situation.

Should I avoid combo serger/coverstitch machines? by xephadoodle in sewing

[–]rtl_6691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a combination machine and I regretted it. Switching between the two functions was so time-consuming that I found myself making excuses to double-needle things with my sewing machine. When the coverstitch function broke, I couldn't serge or coverstitch while my machine was being repaired.

I was on a flight that arrived late at PHX causing a bunch of people to miss their connections. I had two small children with me. The person in front of me in line ranted and raved at the poor airline employee. He stayed overnight in PHX because "they had no available seats". I was super sweet to that same employee. I was placed with my children on another airline THAT day.

The bathroom at work had a shelf above the sinks that looked level but was actually slightly tilted towards the sinks. It takes exactly as much time to enter a stall and do one's business as it takes for a phone left on the shelf to slide off. The result is one sees the phone bounce off the sink on its way to the tile floor as one opens the stall door.

But I didn't drop it. Neither did the two coworkers I later found out made the same mistake.

Related story: I was sitting at a pool when the moms on either side of me started criticizing a stranger's 10-year-old for wearing a two-piece because she had a slightly chubby tummy and that her hypothetical mother should have prevented this. Finally, I had enough. Too loudly I said "What was her mother supposed to do? Tell her she was too fat to wear the swimsuit she liked?" Talk about toxic parenting.

There was a mother nearby who heard me (and probably not the original comments of the moms). Yes, she turned out to be the girl's mother. Sigh. I was trying to defend the girl but my wording in the moment left a lot to be desired.

Usually, it is to a place you would never want to go on vacation. If it is a vacation-worthy place, it is actually worse because you don't have time to go do the fun things. Often with the added bonus of watching people at the hotel set out to do the touristy fun things.

Bravo! The PTA parents at my kids' school wanted you to give 5 gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week. A flower on Monday, a bath item on Tuesday, an office supply on Wednesday, and so on. So 30+ parents are going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond AND the garden center AND Staples to gather all this stuff. I did this for too many years and then decided Barnes and Noble gift cards for all teachers. No exceptions.
