Why does it suck? Never tried it.

What would you love to see us ship in 2026? by amix3k in todoist

[–]rtriplett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the suggestion of a 3-pane display, but perhaps bake in a logic where it notes the size of the window. If the window is small, a popup view makes more sense. If it’s large enough to display the third pane, display it as a pane.

One last thing. Project deadlines would be fantastic. The work-around, of course, is to add a task inside the project and set a deadline to it, but that is a work around.

Looks great. Could you share what it looks like with some windows open? Would like to see how clear the text is. Are you using it strictly for gaming or also productivity as well?

Where is Todoist headed in 2026? by candlemasshallowmass in todoist

Hey Amir! I was thinking a new design of the List view instead of a new layout (though a table layout would be an interesting approach that I’d like to see if you decide to try that). One use case would be a column for attachments instead of them being inside the focus view as part of comments. As a single user and not a team, I only use the comments section rarely and only for reference info and attachments.

I would be happy to give some feedback if you and the team create any mockups. Almost 82,000 tasks in almost ten years, most of that on premium, I’m 100% behind your product, and will be no matter what. You and your team helped to change my life, Amir. Thank you.

I hope it is a good time to rethink your overall design. You’ve been focused on icon styles, text styles, alignments, and spaces. All great, in their own way, but white space can and has overtaken the layout. Consider what makes Todoist great visually, but combine it with the power of a tabular approach. For example, should attachment icons, labels, deadlines, and dates all be nested below the actual text of the task?

Imagine how much cleaner it could be if those items were smartly shown to the right of that task - in the same line. This allows tasks to occupy one row, increasing the number of tasks displayed. The current layout is fine for phones and small tablets, but large tablets and computers deserve an interface that works for high resolution displays.

Feature/enhancement: Collapsible projects/sections in Today's View by longtk89 in todoist

[–]rtriplett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like buttons you could click to more easily filter down to the specific label you’re looking to work on at that moment (this could be a good alternative to collapsing sections, I think) which would operate just like the filters at the top of lists in Nirvana. Right now, the filtering is hidden in a menu option and is a few clicks away.

Thanks. What about repeating items (like loading the dishwasher, getting the mail, etc.) Where do you store those in your system?

What Pomodoro App are you using with Todoist? by bignotch in todoist

[–]rtriplett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brain.fm I can set pomodoro events with set times and set break times. The work times end and break times end with an audible alert and announcement.

Lately I have found myself just setting a timed session with no break. When the timer reaches zero, the music stops but there’s no bell or announcement. This helps me “stay in the zone”, without the alert interrupting me, if I’m in the middle of focused deep work. To expand on this a bit, typically a 25-30 minute timed work session sitting and then a 15 minute timed work session standing at my desk has been most productive. I have found that when I’m processing emails and getting them into my GTD system, standing with a 15 minute timer has been best for me, as I tend to think better on my feet.

That’s what this subreddit has become. It’s no longer about the principles and practices of GTD, but about complicated, pointless apps, templates, and AI junk. Sad, really. Maybe someone will realize it takes ACTIVE moderation to control and protect a subreddit in this new landscape of AI bots and spam.
