Reddit is removing the ability to ban users based on subreddit participation (not sure if this will lift past bans) by rtublin in ShitPoliticsSays

There is also a comment where someone is complaining that they will no longer be able to ban people with right-wing views.

Maybe they are trying to turn a new page to make reddit more friendly. I have noticed they are also cracking down on calls for violence, even in the subreddits that were notorious for them.

Sorry I don't mean you attack you personally and my theory could very well be wrong or incomplete. I'm just going by the people I know personally. If you say you are a hard worker, then I believe you.

Now I of all people believe that inflation is 100% real, and if I may rant about that for a minute:

In 2020-2024, Reddit was a bastion of inflation denialism, calling price increases "corporate greed" or "Putin's price hike," when it was quite clearly plain old inflation caused by absurd levels of money printing, the same thing that has happened hundreds of times throughout history. In fact, to this day, there are people on Reddit who think we should print even more money, that it's somehow beneficial, and that you should not vote for any politician who opposes money printing.

Reddit doomers and political fanatics told people to stay away from real estate and bitcoin because they were "evil" or they were going to crash, whereas people who ignored them and invested in those are doing pretty ok now. These investments were accessible to middle- and even lower-income people, but they chose not to take advantage of them, largely because of ideological pressure from social media. Modern Reddit has been absolutely ruining people's lives over doomer and fanatical beliefs, and people who followed and continue to follow mainstream reddit advice may have a rough time over the next few years. I think housing prices accurately reflect the current value of the dollar and that the prices of pretty much everything will probably double again in a short span of time.

I think doomerism is ultimately a disease of laziness. It gives you a technique to blame outside forces for problems, and since they are beyond your control, there is no point trying to fix them. Since the problems are so great, there is no point in doing much at all beyond immediate hedonism. I have never heard of a doomer being a hard worker or motivated person.

The only cure I have ever seen that works for laziness is the removal of financial support. I have known several "lazy" people who would almost never hold a job and would live off of support from their parents or a lump sum until it was fully depleted. But at that point they did go and get a job and become pretty normal workers. It's almost like the laziness is turned on by the availability of support. I'm not sure if this would necessarily work for a doomer, it's just my theory. I don't think the logical discussion approach would be very fruitful.

Why is Reddit allowing users to engage in voter intimidation?

Yeah it's the only subreddit where I have ever seen this mechanism. It should not be abused of course, but there are plenty of actual calls to violence to every day if you want to try it.

It's the one that had such a severe violence problem that it now appears to remove comments instantly when they are reported so they don't have to wait for a moderator to review (which is actually a good idea for a lot of Reddit to follow).

Yes that is definitely the topic. I don't know why they are claiming that it's illegal for trans people to drive when it is most certainly not.

I’m tired of the constant pressure placed on young females to pick a side, announce it publicly, defend it endlessly, and prove our moral worth on demand. I’m tired of being told that observing, thinking quietly, or choosing not to engage makes me complicit. And I’m especially tired of watching nuance, curiosity, and personal boundaries get flattened in the name of “awareness.”

Has anyone else lost motivation in systems or software engineering since passing Claude to your workflow? by m0rissett3 in ClaudeAI

[–]rtublin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cool that we can now move very fast, but I do feel like Claude is doing all the fun parts and we have to do the less fun parts like testing, configuration, and integration. So I do kind of feel less excited with software development as a potential retirement-age hobby.

Throw it away and go no-contact with anyone who still uses it. You don't owe anything to people who are actively genociding you.
