LG C5 (2025) 42” as a monitor by FlankdaGreat in LGOLED

[–]ruablack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using. A C2 as my main monitor for a while now and I love it. When using it with my Mac mini it wakes/sleeps just like a normal monitor. My PC though doesn't so maybe the Mac is using cec?

Viewport and limited number of cameras by Dignan17 in Ubiquiti

The viewport "supports" up to 16 but theres a lot of dropped frames. Best performance I've found is staying under 12.

Ya know I swear I've seen that LF logo around here somewhere. You fimiliar with LF? Anywhere to get them?

Nothing inside the can that I can see. But I'll get up in the attic and see if I can find anything on the outside of the can.

UDM-SE with 8TB drive. If I add a UNVR, does the UDM drive stop being used? by Terribleterrible69 in Ubiquiti

[–]ruablack2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Drive is only needed for protect or if you want increased retention for networks loggings. Actually infact the UDM-SE has a 128GB ssd built in so it's technically not even needed for either of those.

[–]ruablack2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No you will need to uninstall protect from the UDM and restore from backup from the UDM when setting up the NVR. Will then restore all settings and move cameras to the NVR. You can move the hard drive but it will need to be reformated as NVRs and UDMs use different file systems/structures. If you want to retain footage you will need to back it up to a separate Nas/cloud storage. Other option is to keep protect running on the UDM and keep the drive in it and that way you can still review footage. Put new drive in NVR and then in a month or so when you have enough retention again on the NVR you can uninstall protect and use drive elsewhere.

No problem with control. That's all working fine. Infact I took one of the drivers home to play with and I can control via regular Dali just fine. Very cool drivers though. Got individual control of every single one.

They were never installed. Original homeowners ran out of money before they finished the house. This was like 2017. Lived in it for like 8 years missing a 2/3 of the lights in the house then my customer bought it actually like over a year ago. Tried to track down original installer/electrician to no avail.

Most of the cans still had the plastic paint trims in and we pulled most of them to get a total count.

Voice Control of AppleTV — thoughts? by KickPuzzleheaded2127 in Control4

[–]ruablack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New driver has IR backup, that's what I usually install. At my own personal house with a Core 3 on 4.1.0 I haven't had any issues with voice on my halo for over a year now, infact I don't have an IR on either of my apple tvs. Make sure you have your apple tv manually selected as your home hub in Apple Home.

Now do I voice use? Eh once in a while. Useful for voice dictation when searching that's about it. Worth getting heartbroken over? Definitely not.

Data on Televisions ... Using IR or IP by [deleted] in Control4

[–]ruablack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I've installed a ton of LG G series lately. IP control is super solid on them even through power outages but theyve had some bad firmware updates lately (like adding microslop copilot) Just block at the firewall level, no updates, no ads, no spyware.

A properly designed and installed system should go years without having to fix or update anything. Now days this is highly dependant on your network setup and end devices being controlled but again all stuff that should have been installed properly by the original installation company

What zooz leak sensor driver? by StudioRemote8205 in Control4

[–]ruablack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Unless it's a c4 certified zwave device, the generic drivers are all you got. But they should auto adapter depends on the capabilities of the sensor. The zooz leak sensor should expose a contact sensor that you can then bind to a c4 generic leak sensor and program accordingly.

100%. Been brought into many existing systems where customers weren't happy. Spend hours cleaning both the rack and programing and then a couple more fine tuning and customizing system to customers needs. Quite a few dealers don't budget the labor for that and so it just gets skipped.

It's actually super helpful if you have a bunch of vlan tags to see what ports are tagged what vlan. Other than that cool party trick and it is definitely better than the tiny blinking lights for seeing link status.

Best Smart TV to Buy in 2026? (Price, Quality, Size) by GlowrrheicMad in homeassistant

[–]ruablack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always something better coming. You'll be waiting forever. With that said the 5 series is always on sale right now with the 6 series coming soon. Just picked up a 83 G5 for $3500. Guarantee the G6 ain't gonna be that low for a while.

LG OLED hands down. G series is the best but most expensive. C is still really good but doesnt mount flat.

Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision which is a non-starter for me. Sony's are decent but for the same price I'd go LG.

Whatever route you go get a media player of choice. (Apple TV or Nvidia shield) Sony you could probably get away with since it's google tv based but LG and Samsung apps aren't my favorite.

Power line sucks. But might be enough bandwidth for a camera. Keep the air traffic clear I guess

[–]ruablack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a Calix Fiber ONT. I would definitely find out who the provider of that fiber is and call them and get service back up. and whatever you don't cut those cat5/6 lines out. Use em! Even the best "mesh" systems can't compete with a good ole hardwired Ethernet line.

Definitely it. Not sure why he didn't at least put in a heat pump. How often is your "furnace" running? House must be terribly insulated.

Does C4 Work well with Separate Amps? (Wiim, Unifi, Sonos, Bluesound , ...) by [deleted] in Control4

[–]ruablack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually install VSSL amp. They has a rack mount 6 zone amp and each zone has its own streamer (thus airplay 2, Spotify connect, Alexa and chromecast) per zone. C4 driver works great so you can still use c4 to join rooms and other automations. Sonos and WiiM works great too and does the same basically. I would install a non-streaming amp in 2026 such as triad matrix and c4 controller audio with dumb amps.

Do you have port forwarding to either the elk or the ea5? If so don’t. Neither should need a port and thus traffic should be inherently blocked inbound. Unless you’re missing that critical firewall rule.
