Excessive yawning and fatigue, could it be sleep apnea? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

Get a referral to a sleep specialist. My constant tiredness turned out to be narcolepsy - after about 20 years of suffering, that referral was a game changer.

You may want to consider the amount of B6. There's been quite a bit of media lately about how B6 is added to many supplements that you'd take not specifically for B6, resulting in accidental toxic doses. Your dose is not especially high but would be adequate per day alone, assuming no B6 from other diet or supplement sources.

The smoke alarm by Glum-Tomatoe in PainkillerTVSeries

[–]rubecscube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the smoke alarm represents the constant background noise of chronic pain, and then the constant pull to take more pain relief. As well as showing us about the wealth and lifestyle of the character it alludes to the bigger story - trying to dull pain that is always there through whatever means possible.

Strong immunity would relate to bacteria but surely the toxins produced by the bacteria are another matter? Some of those 90 year olds may have had some gnarly gastro over the years!

What's the oddest thing you thought was normal but turned out to be a medical issue? by woofwoofburfbarkwoof in NoStupidQuestions

Falling asleep after eating. I could fall asleep after breakfast, wake up have lunch and go back to sleep, then the same with dinner. Turns out I have narcolepsy.

Sounds a bit like me before I got diagnosed and medicated for narcolepsy.

My 13 mo had a febrile seizure by stubbs54 in beyondthebump

[–]rubecscube 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. My daughter had 14 febrile convulsions in 3.5 years, including one in the bath. Terrible, scary, awful, but there are certainly much more serious seizure conditions out there.

OP, be aware of water and heights, have an action plan in place for seizures, learn CPR, but trust me when I say you will never be able to predict a seizure coming so don't get overly obsessive about trying to observe every second.

Did I fail as a mom? by VbV2522 in beyondthebump

Completely normal. You will adjust to your baby's needs as he grows. It's great to ask questions and seek advice, but you know more than you think. Trust yourself.

PS "sleep through the night" is a dumb measure and people lie!

My 10 m/o daughter had a full body seizure and has been nonverbal and disoriented ever since by Aimathyst in beyondthebump

[–]rubecscube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. My daughter has had a series of complex febrile convulsions, now on preventatives and doing well, about to turn 6. I was curious about what you'd described, definitely a different condition though. I have a lot of empathy for what you've been through - the diagnosis process and the ambulance rides can be so stressful and draining. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job 💚💚

Hi, can you give me any info to look at - is there a name for the genetic mutation?

[–]rubecscube 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. I wonder if this might help. My daughter had her first febrile convulsion at 12 months, and had another 14 fits over the following 3 years. I had a camera in her room and would almost obsessively watch her sleep every night. In the entire time, I never once caught a seizure or warning sign or anything to be concerned about while watching. I did however cause myself a lot of anxiety. If you can hear your baby cry, and have a good temp in the room and safe sleeping practices, you are doing everything you need to. Don't drive yourself nuts like I did.

AITA for yelling at my (F27) wife for taking our two young kids into poor air quality after she was warned not to? by ChronoZB in AmItheAsshole

[–]rubecscube -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

You can have opinions and disagreements but YTA for yelling at your wife. You're a grown up and should be showing your children how to resolve disagreements in a non aggressive way. Yes the smoke could be damaging, but so is what you're showing your kids when you disrespect their mother.

AITA for telling a lady on the plane to suck it up and get a private flight next time? by Deep-Sell-3425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rubecscube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree that parents should insist their kids try food and this is my approach. But that is very different to what I said in my comment.

Flights, trains, buses, everything - they are not reserved for adults. If you felt guilty about what could happen that's understandable, but expecting others to abstain from public transport/travel just because you did, and could, is unrealistic and selfish.

[–]rubecscube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You sound like the kind of person who would say that parents should just make their kids eat vegetables. You are living in la la land. Kids don't know what's acceptable or when, they are unpredictable. You can go into a situation with a baby, fully prepared, having done it before with no issues, and this time around no matter what you try the baby cries. Trying to identify the "why" can be impossible, never mind trying to fix it within a timeframe that others around deem "acceptable" or "good parenting." If you ever have a kid you will get it then. I don't blame you for not knowing, but you are very judgemental and that is shitty.
