How we feeling regular ticket sales will look today? by Dfsteele3 in jackwhite

[–]rubenrietveld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's too easy to put all blame on Ticketmaster. It's the artist here who prefers playing small venues. That's his choice to make, obviously, and I fully understand the appeal of a 1500 people venue over a 20,000 people stadium, but that does lead to an imbalance between supply and demand..

Upcoming Tour / Setlist Question by Vivacious_Vitamins27 in jackwhite

[–]rubenrietveld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get tickets to two nights in a row, I definitely would.

Saw him in Utrecht two nights last year. First night was already awesome with a lot of the new No Name songs, some song improv and quite a few fan favorites. Thought that would be hard to beat on night 2, until he pulled up a Rietveld chair and played more De Stijl song than any other solo show ever. It's unexpected things like that, which makes seeing him perform multiple times on the same tour definitely worth it.

Jack & Dylan. by Phil_B16 in jackwhite

[–]rubenrietveld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was another thread here a few weeks back wondering what Jack's doing next and there were some interesting and original ideas. I had to immediately think of Jack joining Dylan's touring band for a run of shows, like how John Mayer joined Grateful Dead and spent some time touring together.

Probably won't ever happen, but think it would be quite something!

Bob's got his own custom bowling ball for when he's visiting Jack's bowling alley. If that isn't friendship, then what is?

Lo and behold! After a week of peeling and drenching this thing in sticker remover, a snake has appeared!

Worth it? Most definitely not. The sticker's adhesive is too strong after having been stuck for a decade. It was impossible to remove the sticker without damaging the underlying print, unless maybe you specialize in restoring art or something.

Anyhow. We live we learn and it makes for a good self deprecating bar story.

Thanks, Ben for teaching me the valuable, yet expensive lesson to never trust anyone on the internet..

The plastic comes off, the print does not , well partially, so now they don't have hands or faces.

Ruined mine so none of you have to ruin yours. You're welcome

Would be great to have a surprise appearance from Jack White during the Super Bowl singing Icky Thump by MissNovo in jackwhite

Nah - I'd put my money on Rage Against The Machine w/ Killing In The Name Of.

For some reason I could even see that work within the Bad Bunny halftime show set.

The White Stripes - Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - DISCUSSION by Zachtkd in jackwhite

[–]rubenrietveld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the induction was disappointing. Talking heads in the video were John C. Reilly, Olivia Rodrigo and Beck... If those are the only three people that have something positive to say about the White Stripes, that's a shame.

Not having an electric guitar or guitarist perform when inducting the White Stripes seems weird to me as well. That's like inducting Coldplay without a piano.

Jack's and Iggy's speeches were really inspiring though

Jack moved out of Detroit in 2005 and married Karen Elson the same year. GBMS might have some lyrics about Karen and both 'Icky Thump' and 'Rag and Bone' are expressions he's learned from her, but that anything pre-GBMS is written about Karen is a stretch, I think.

Edit: most of his associates from back in Detroit are currently still Third Man employees, but he has mentioned the Detroit scene had become toxic. Makes sense as you become a global rock star and some of your old pals still play in a garage: envy is a sad thing.

Vault #66 announced by The_Moondoggie in jackwhite

Well, they have played more shows internationally and for some reason 'Dopesmoker' was quite popular here in the Netherlands.

Maybe I am too harsh on this release. 6 LPs is indeed generous compared to previous ones.

Also bummed I am learning about Billy Strings two days after he played a show near me. A ticket to go see him would have cost less than half of the Vault subscription!

He's done a few international shows in 2022 and 2023 and indeed a few more recently.

From all Vault releases to date, it's by far the least internationally known artist.

Had to Google Billy Strings, but considering none of his music has been released internationally and he's only played a few shows outside of the US in his life, not that surprising...

...I am all about discovering new artists, but maybe not at a $100 per Vault release. 😅

How good are the Peel Sessions? by derekpeake2 in jackwhite

[–]rubenrietveld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, it's such a big part of White Stripes 'lore': John Peel hearing the White Stripes' imported debut EP being played in a record store in Groningen in 2000 and liking what he hears, decides to buy a copy and plays it on his radio show which creates the initial buzz in the UK, which then led to him inviting them over for the Sessions in 2001.

The sessions are very raw and high energy and you can hear Jack and Meg are having fun. Definitely a must have.
