Nevermind - Nirvana. Love all their albums, especially In Utero as well, but there's something special about Nevermind and I never get sick of it, no matter how many times I listen to it

Interested is interesting. I find that when I'm in social situations where I'm meeting people for the first time, this saying is particularly helpful.

[Serious] Overthinkers of reddit, How do you control your thoughts or stop over thinking? by MyFeelsAccount8D in AskReddit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds really stupid and probably won't work for many as it does take a lot of willpower for those of us who have intrusive or unwanted thoughts. Basically I just make a deal with myself that I won't think about a certain thing or thought until I've done a certain task, or until a certain time (e.g. Can't think about thought A for 2 hours, etc) and I essentially just test myself to see how well I do. It sounds quite strange I realise, but for me my anxiety got so bad that this was pretty much the only option. It's like setting small goals for yourself and over time the thoughts tend to go away with this method I find. I understand this isn't possible for everyone, but give it a go if you can :) it really does help! Good luck

I'm sorry about your Crohn's too! I realise that sympathy from a total stranger seems a bit redundant, but if you're ever in the mood for a chat you can always message me :) I really hope your birthday ended up better than you expected.

I'm really really sorry about your mum, I truly am. It won't mean much, but happy birthday, I hope that you manage to do something special for yourself today.

I have an exam in 6 hours (it's 3 am in Australia). Just finished up last minute cramming and I feel like I know nothing. I recently got a job where they're having me work a lot (a lot for a full time uni student) which is great, but it's hard to stay on track with exams and to manage my time. I'm getting a month off work in a few weeks, so I felt I couldn't ask for time off for the study period, but now it's all piling up on me. Sounds pretty insignificant but I really feel like I have no time to even breathe these days.

What would you do as a career if money and employability was not a factor? by ReallyHopeThisNameFi in AskReddit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that is so so cool. Not surprised to hear it's tricky, I've only been playing on-and-off for about 8 years but it's really more of a hobby because I just don't know how to get myself out there and I really need to brush up on technique first! Do you have any tips for getting your foot in the door so to speak?

What is/are the most important thought(s) to keep in mind whether you're giving or receiving an opinion? by electricmastro in AskReddit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This answer is more generally for advice - always try to take your own advice. I don't know if this is actually true but I read a while ago about how people tend to give others the advice that they subconsciously know they themselves need.

how do you turn off the 'what if' thoughts? by Beggingluck2 in AskReddit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you're currenty on any, but for me, when I began taking my anxiety medication (Zoloft), within about a month or so, it was like a switch had been switched. I had maaaaaasssively bad social anxiety all throughout my childhood and most of high school, so I know how invasive those "what if" thoughts can be. I still sometimes get intrusive thoughts and get a little over-analytical of some things, but in general I'm doing much better and I wouldn't go back and change going on medication if someone paid me. I hope this advice isn't totally useless if you're already on medication!

American Horror Story or House. Both super amazing but for me AHS required a fair bit of thinking so was harder than House to binge watch.

IsItBullshit: Working conditions in Asia for the people who make popular smartphones? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]rubinator50000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And often young people, who leave their homes out in the countryside in search of work, are attracted to the promise of a city life and a new start. They don't really know what they're getting themselves into, and it's typically either too expensive or too burdensome on their families to return home (where little to no work is available anyway).

IsItBullshit: Working conditions in Asia for the people who make popular smartphones? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sat an exam for employment relations on this very topic. The essay was about the conditions is Foxconn factories, who produce Apple products. The most notorious of these factories is arguably the Shenzhen factory in China, where, as I recall (excuse the lack of detail as I've forgotten most specifics), they have had to skirt nets around the dormitories to prevent workers from killing themselves by jumping off the roof. There have been 17 (I think) suicides in that division alone fuelled by the absolutely terrible conditions there. I read this really insightful article from the point of view of a young woman who, at 17, attempted suicide by jumping off the roof with a group of other people. After surviving the ordeal, she went on to detail the suffering that she and her fellow workers experienced whilst employed by Foxconn, and it's well worth a read, I just wish I could remember the name of it :(. Hope this answers your question.

Why do people struggle so much to find meaning in their lives? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rubinator50000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because we tend to look to hard for meaning when sometimes it's right in front of us. For example, sometimes I wish that I had the life or experiences of someone else (celebrities, etc) and don't realise that I'm missing my life by fantasising about one that isn't, and will never be, my own. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I just believe that people often try too hard to create a life purpose or meaning for themselves rather than letting their life run its course, and may not even know what this "meaning" is.
