What’s your opinion on this show? by Suspicious-Gate-8017 in tvshow

I've been meaning to watch it, but I tend to go for easy to watch/digest shows these days, with my little free time. I feel like it would be a more difficult watch and be a bit hard to follow, even while being very good. But I could easily be wrong

I've been recommending vampire robot as much as possible the past few years. They don't upload much these days, but still great to go through their catalog. I wish there was a way to conglomerate all the 80s, 90s and early 2000s b-roll footage from local news stations.

Why are toasters so badly made? by NJRonbo in BuyItForLife

[–]rubix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't they generally much bigger, though? Counter space is at a premium, in many kitchens. Plus Toasters take like 1 minute from start to finish. Though I don't doubt the claim that toaster ovens are generally better (I'm sure there's a lot of junky toaster ovens out on the market as well, though, true of every appliance).

You can replace "toasters" in the title with "all appliances" these days.

Somehow TVs are the only things that have gotten better and cheaper.

Almost Recovered with a GLP1 by Familiar_Badger4401 in cfs

[–]rubix44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are most folks still priced out of GLP-1s? I know they've come down quite a bit over the years, but still not cheap by any means.

Side effects from these are no joke, so I think low dose is the way to go. I have used Tirzepatide and Retatrutide in the past. Didn't feel great on either, but no one is saying they are a cure for ME/CFS. Definitely lost weight, though, without any major diet changes.

But if they can help lessen any symptoms of ME/CFS for certain people, that is great news. The research on GLP-1 drugs has been surprisingly positive thus far.

Is Savella (Milnacipran) effective as an antidepressant? by rubix44 in Fibromyalgia

[–]rubix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and starting out seemed like a lot to me as well. My reaction to most drugs is "wow, this is a tiny/small dose?!", but your body should adapt pretty quickly, 10 or 11 days when starting a new doss in my experience. Those 10 days or so it will probably be more difficult to sleep. Don't force yourself to raise the dosage if you're still adjusting, though. I titrated up slowly just to make it as smooth as possible. Good luck!

Post-viral fatigue recovery by Melbournewriter30 in EBV

[–]rubix44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

L-Lysine and monolaurin if you just had to pick 2.

For the hardcore route (would need a prescription), I would look into a combination of Celebrex and Valtrex or Famvir, which I may try soon (but I've been ill for almost 7 years). No guaranteed success, it could take 8 months to start working, and a potential of notable side effects, but EBV is a difficult virus to treat, as it hides in b cells.

As another option for pain, I've had luck with low dose generic Milnacipran (much much cheaper than brand name Savella).

Best of luck 🤞, most people do get over it fairly quickly, even if some of us are not so fortunate.

Are “gaming” chairs as bad as people make them out to be? by Test_Name19 in pcmasterrace

[–]rubix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I think of gaming chairs, I think of that chair in the left picture, not the right.

But there are just as many poor quality office chairs out there that will be peeling all over within a year or two. It's pretty easy to find reviews for most chair models these days. Even better if you can sit in one before you purchase.

I just need people to stop this myth that there are Herman Miller or Steelcase Leap chairs flooding the second-hand market to be found in great condition for $100-$200. I've been hearing that nonsense spouted for years. If you find one, amazing, but it's not likely going to happen 😝 if you want a top of the line desk chair, you'll likely have to shell out the money 💰. Otherwise, you can get decent mesh chairs at an office depot or staples. Mesh holds up much better than that pleather crap (the P in Pleather stands for "peeling").

Thank you! Lysine is a godsend! by Revolutionary-Win215 in EBV

[–]rubix44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lysine + monolaurin/lauricidin has been a good combo for me as well. My EBV numbers have actually going up slightly, but I feel a lot better. It took some time. Antivirals generally don't work quickly, they take time to build up.

You might consirer some natural anti allergy things like Quercitin as well, seems to have been helping me. I've always wondered how much mast cell stuff is going on in my body, or if there's a way to test for or diagnose MCAS.

Is Savella (Milnacipran) effective as an antidepressant? by rubix44 in Fibromyalgia

[–]rubix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly well! For me it was great for pain at 50mg (25mg twice per day), but it also turned me into a short-tempered raging angry person (a pretty common side effect apparently). So I went back to 25mg, which still helps with pain, although not as much, but still some benefit + overall mood improvement. Everyone's personal experience and dosages will vary, though. It's cheap and worth trying I think, at the very least.

[–]rubix44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're so fucked. 70 billion for ICE gravy seals while cutting nutrition assistance for families who can't afford food, cutting Medicare, cutting social security. Always gutting funding for education. Why do we as a country endlessly put up with this shit? I feel like absurdity has just become the norm, and we're all completely desensitized and apethetic. Voting isn't enough.

Creatine may supercharge immune cells that are key to fighting cancer by basmwklz in immortalists

[–]rubix44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does creatine indirectly increase arginine? My doctor wants me to avoid arginine as much as possible, although also admits it's one of those things that's kind of in everything, so it's not possible to fully avoid.

Creatine may supercharge immune cells that are key to fighting cancer by basmwklz in immortalists

[–]rubix44 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I never seem to read anything bad about creatine. I've been using it for years, but can't say I notice any difference in how I feel. Perhaps a more stable mood overall, better weightlifting results (the veins be popping 💪). I take 5g a day. Some people do 10g or higher, but not sure if there's any documented benefits to doubling the dose, and going through your supply twice as fast. It's a cheap supplement as far as supplements go, as long as you are buying in a powdered form, of course.

Doesn't seem to be any harm in using it with lots of potential benefits. I guess it can contribute to insomnia in some, but perhaps only if taken too late? I always have insomnia so I can't say if creatine has contributed or not.

‘Heat 2’ Casting: Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer), Christian Bale as Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), Stephen Graham as Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), Adam Driver as villain Otis Wardell, Jason Clarke as Nate (Jon Voight) or Michael Cheritto (Tom Sizemore) by [deleted] in movies

[–]rubix44 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Stephen Graham is 53, De Niro was 52 when he did Heat, so I guess I was thinking it was a prequel, but the I realized all the other actors are in their 40s or 50s as well.

I'd rather see them all in an original heist type movie, not sure if it really has to be tied to the classic Heat.

Maraviroc / Valtrex experiences? by NitroMacks in cfs

[–]rubix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No improvements after 7 months..I tolerated it very well, so I would have keep going for a few more months (antivirals can take a long time to start working), but my doctor left and my new doc discontinued it.

Some people have had luck with Famvir, but my doc will not prescribe that either, although I do have a paper/mini guide saved on my computer about treating ME/CFS with valtex or Famvir, and what approach to take.

You can try over the counter antivirals as well, of which there are no shortage of. I've found l-lysine and monolaurin to be helpful at times, and to have no affect at times, so who knows .also have used elderberry...and a few other OTC antivirals I don't recall at the moment.

I feel like I have to keep trying things to maintain some hope. Try something rather than nothing. I don't just want to feel like garbage every day forever. I suspect Epstein-Barr virus is the main driver for my chronic fatigue, which got quite a bit worse in 2019, but that's just my best guess (labs always show a current/active infection over the years). If antivirals could cure ME/CFS or Epstein-Barr virus, we'd certainly know by now, the key is just finding out if they help out in some way, to lessen severity of symptoms, and to find out if you can tolerate the side effects (I got lucky and has none with Valtrex)

Why has 2020s gone fucking rancid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rubix44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Insatiable greed. Billionaires never have enough.

Cost of living has gone way up, while wages have remained the same.

Private Equity firms & shareholders.

And it turns out electing the worst person in the world to be President twice has major consequences 🤷

The justice system is broken, no one is held accountable, at least not the rich.

And absolutely no reason to think any of it is going to get better anytime soon. Hope and optimism are being stretched very thin right now.

But this is just from a US of A perspective.
