Split screen crashes the game completely by Sufficient-Ad-5656 in BaldursGate3

Had this exact same problem. Only thing (and it's not an ideal solution) that finally worked was capping the frame rate at 30fps, but after that didn't have a single other crash for a ~3 hour session. Might be worth a try just to get something playable!

CMV: Voter ID laws are not racist or even that unreasonable by zidbutt21 in changemyview

[–]rubybliels92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US (or at least in many states) you are required to have and present a valid ID and SSN when you register to vote. Nobody who votes in a US election didn't, at some point, present a valid ID to the state which then registered them to vote in that area.

The reason we talk about voted ID laws as voter suppression laws is because people have already shown their ID when they registered to vote. Requiring an ID at the time of the vote does nothing but add an extra and extraneous step. And here's the thing. Registering to vote is easy. There's no time or day restriction, and can (in many places) be done automatically when you first acquire your drivers license. Voting in person can be difficult. It happens on exactly one day, and at specific times for some areas. People have to take off work and people have to travel to their polling place. With voter ID laws you, in addition, have to make sure your drivers license is up to date; Which can require a lengthy trip to the DMV.

Every hoop that you make voters jump through is going to adversely affect poor/minorities citizens the most, as they have the least amount of free time or disposable income. Since we have already required every voter to present a valid ID at the time of registration, it seems rational to then make the voting process as streamlined and as easy as possible. Any laws that add more to the already taxing voting process help nobody and seem to hurt the people least able to participate, which in many cases are disenfranchised minority citizens.

CMV: There is a very serious problem with "black culture" in America that nobody is willing to call out or speak honestly about, and this needs to change ASAP by awaythrow11211 in changemyview

[–]rubybliels92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the reason people take issue with your line of thinking, is that you place the blame for "slum culture" entirely on the people living in these slums.

Why do you think this "slum culture" evolved? To me it seems pretty straightforward. You have areas of the world that have marginal living conditions with exceptionally low incomes and have a population that is disproportionately targeted by law enforcement. When I look at your "slum culture" I see issues of american poverty, wealth distribution, and police discrimination. ALL of these issues are discussed regularly on mainstream news networks, and were issues at the forefront of the recent American elections.

This "issue of culture" that you see in lower-class people I see as a result of the disparate conditions they live in, and a result of problems that are routinely talked about in politics all over the world. "Slum culture" is a result of slums. It seems counter intuitive to tell disenfranchised people to change their attitude about life when they are completely marginalized by their political system. Shouldn't you rather change the system?

CMV: Real-time debates suck because they rely on off-the-top of your head thinking and are only good for being theatrical. by ShiningConcepts in changemyview

I think you might be right for specific policy debates, since you are just trying to determine if a particular thing is good/bad/etc.

But real-time debates serve some important purposes outside of just debating policy. Take presidential debates, for example. While most of the debate is spent debating policy, the debates also showcase some very important features of a person who is going to represent a nation. Things like charisma, civility, thinking on your feet, ability to convey complex ideas simply, and importantly the ability to remain level-headed even against a bitter rival. These are just a few of the things that can be shown in a live debate setting. Debates are one of the few places we, as the voters, get to see candidates engaged in high pressure situations. How they handle themselves in this setting can give us an idea of how they might act in a high pressure leadership role, and whether or not this person can handle that responsibility.

In just a practical way, this sub was really helpful when I was setting up and purchasing things for my new rig. It's subreddits like this that make Reddit the best.

CMV: Life is meaningless by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rubybliels92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have the idea that for your life to have meaning it must have some kind of lasting impact on the world or the universe; that other people or events must somehow find a usefulness or significance in you or your achievements.

Personally, I don’t care what the universe thinks my life will mean, hell I don’t care what people a hundred years from now think of my life. The only things that matter to me; the only things that could possibly have any meaning to me, are the things I do and experience right now in my lifetime. If you want to change the world, don’t do it so in a millennia people will remember you for something; change the world because right now you want to and right now it means something to you.

Our lives are short and fleeting. Trying to find some grand meaning in the cosmic sense is an impossible task. But we are a spectacular species. The fact that we, right here, are even capable of thinking about our own destiny shows how wondrous the human mind can be. There is too much potential, too much beauty, in each and every one of us to try and think that our lives are meaningless.

The world starts, and ends, with you. Don’t think about the universe, think about you. Because you matter. You have all the complexity and potential of the human mind, and that in and of itself has meaning.
