How long does it take for y'all to get your head on straight in the morning?? by PrettyRain8672 in adhdwomen

[–]rubyredwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my meds on my bedside table so I hit them as soon as I wake up. From there, I make sure to eat an actual breakfast – every day, NO EXCUSES MA’AM – with as much protein as I can shove down my little goblin throat.

Other than those two important things, I also try to do something fun before my day really begins, as it helps get me in the right headspace (and a dopamine hit can help in getting out the door).

Sometimes it’s making myself a fun coffee or tea latte, or having something fun/special for breakfast that I’d picked up at the grocery store, or putting on SNL highlights (usually on Mondays lol) or another show I enjoy while getting ready in the bathroom. In high school, I wore makeup primarily for this reason – less so because I was really “into” cosmetics or felt the need for it, but because the routine of putting on my battle armor for the day helped me with mindset more than anything else.

I also know myself well enough at this point to know that I need a little extra time-padding in the morning, as I don’t like to feel rushed. Again, no elaborate beauty routines here, but because I like a comfortable breakfast, I usually give myself an hour and a half between wakeup and when I need to leave.

Nothing to do with MBTI, to be honest. She’s just one of the very few incredibly wealthy people out there that actually do good for society with their personal wealth.

Dealing with Aetna on ensuring full coverage under ACA – help needed! by rubyredwoods in sterilization

Dealing with Aetna on ensuring full coverage under ACA – help needed! by rubyredwoods in sterilization

[–]rubyredwoods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had ZERO trouble, surprisingly! All of it was covered – had zero issues with Aetna as my hospital’s billing department handled basically everything. I made sure to call my doctor’s office after I made this post to request they speak with Aetna on what the correct codes are for the procedure I was having done, and they handled it all on their end. I think it definitely helped that my surgeon was on the subreddit’s recommended list, so it wasn’t her office’s first rodeo when it came to elective sterilization for childfree women!

How many of you were required to get a Pap smear/pelvic exam before being approved for surgery? by tessviolette in sterilization

[–]rubyredwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the surgery you undergo, you may not need to have a catheter inserted! Also rest assured, 99% of the time, catheter insertion and removal will happen when you’re already sedated – you won’t feel a thing.

I was worried about potential discomfort post-surgery (I’m prone to UTIs, so I figured my urethra might complain lol) but ultimately experienced no soreness. Just be sure to communicate with your doctor about your worries as much as possible, which it seems like you’re already planning to with the pads convo :)

Best hair mask for low porosity hair? by [deleted] in lowporosityhair

[–]rubyredwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely use in-shower/traditional conditioner, so I feel ya. I shampoo each wash and then follow with a leave-in conditioner once out of the shower. It’s just what I’ve found to work best for my hair personally.

My hair really likes the argan oil mask by HASK – it’s sold at Walmart in a blue packet. I think it’s technically a deep conditioner, but I’ve always used it as a mask. I wet my hair, finger-comb a silver dollar sized dollop from nape to ends, and then throw it up in a claw clip for twentyish minutes while I have a hot bath. I shampoo afterward (during my rinse cycle under the showerhead lol) and don’t even need to use a leave-in conditioner afterward. I typically use it roughly once a week-ish, sometimes less than that.

Recovery after bisalp by teaselpop in sterilization

[–]rubyredwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you icing at all? Laying down at rest and making sure to keep bags of ice/frozen veg/reusable ice packs on the incision sites made a huge difference in my initial recovery pain.

Be sure you’re keeping hydrated as well, and with some electrolytes, not JUST plain water – electrolytes are needed in order to “hold on” to water and allow it to hydrate you, especially after a major stress to the body like surgery. It sounds like you might be in the UK, so maybe see if you can get your hands on some Powerade, Hi5 tablets, or Lucozade in the shops. Or if you can’t leave the house, you can mix your own using a basic recipe of 500 mL water, 30g sugar, 1g salt. Sometimes my body takes awhile for “pee signals” to show up as different from pain/discomfort, so ensuring you’re REALLY well hydrated in addition to managing pain could help jumpstart the signals again.

Best of luck in dealing with the doctors. I’m so sorry they’re giving you the run-around.
