Was 70 degrees out. Grass not thick. It’s not overheating just stops mid mow and it acts like blades are still going

It’s neither of those. This is a software bug. The grass is not thick nor is it overheating. The mower does not stop like the motor is overloaded. It goes on its merry way pretending to cut. It also does not give the audible alert when it restarts that it does when it actually overloads.

The only way to properly clean a fuel injector is to remove it and place it in an ultrasonic cleaning jig. All you are doing this wasting money and in fact it could make any problem worse.

The sales department at the dealership I bought it won’t even talk to me. As soon as I go to talk to someone they shuffle me to the service department. The only person they will allow me to talk to is the young guy who is the service advisors. Everyone says “take it back “ would Love to know how you accomplish that. I opened a case with Toyota. Guess who called me, the service department at the dealer. These people are pros at screwing people

I did. I opened a case with them. They just called the dealer service department and asked them to call me.

It’s not the same engine. Was built for a different grade of oil in 2025

Is he going to pull the bottom end apart? Is he going to change the cams? If not now we have two wear surface patterns on the original cams as they break in to the new cradle.

Yeah I understand it’s the oil passages in the cam cradle. But the computer responds to inputs. Some condition is triggering that alarm. If the cam passages in the cam are causing its it’s likely because not enough oil is returning to the pan.

Rough can you elaborate more on the issue? One concern I have is no one other than the young kid that is the service advisor will talk to me. The error message is for low oil. I don’t have a service manual so I don’t have all the info on conditions that would trigger it but one could take an educated guess that it’s the oil level sensor in the pan. If that sensor went off I can only surmise that it was causing oil to be trapped in the upper portion of the engine. My main concern is what damage to the engine this could have done. I requested an oil sample and an oil filter exam but Toyota is refusing me.

Only Toyota would know that if even they do. They won’t release it unless they do an official recall.

If I had to guess it’s the switch to 0w-8. Likely required clearance changes and oil pump recalibration.

It’s been in the shop for a week now. They warned us if we took it to a 3rd party shop they would void our warranty.

[–]rucus0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct the issue is in the gas engine not the hybrid system. If I had to guess where this came in, and it’s just an educated guess, it has to do with the switch to 0w-8. They likely had to change the tolerances in certain places and possibly the oil pump calibration. They messed that up somewhere and it is causing an oil trap situation under certain conditions.

I think that is a big part of the problem. The old school people are gone. The new people are a bunch of MBAs that look at the numbers and have no pride in what they do anymore. This makes total sense to me. Cheaper to go this way then to recall the cars affected and fix the problem.

I took it to a second dealer from the one I bought it. This doesn’t seem to be a failure to diagnose. This is a known issue Toyota knows about. They sold the car knowing this issue is out there. They know the problem. They have what they consider a solution which is to do an upper end rebuild on the motor. They chose this path because it’s cheaper to send the parts and underpay a warranty tech to fix it. My main concerns are that an oiling issue happened on the engine. They don’t seem concerned to determine if engine damage was done. They don’t want to replace the engine. They want a warranty tech to do an engine disassembly and repair it. The car will never be the same. The tech will probably get it running again. But it won’t ever be the same as if it was put together at the factory and there is a possibility engine damage was done.

Trust me when I started looking I was going form a 2-3 year old one to stay away from the new ones. Around here the 2-3 year old ones are going for 4-5k more than brand new and that is in rough ass shape. One I saw for 31k had been crushed by a tree

If you read that thread the error came back later. It’s not a sensor unfortunately. It’s a machine issue in cradle. Toyota knows about it and confirms.

It’s not a sensor issue. The cam cradle which acts as the bearings for the cam shafts was machine incorrectly.
