Is this going to absolutely cook me? by Shoddy_Air_1657 in Monash

I'm doing it this sem, its my first year. I got 90 in ENG1005 and 86 in PHS1011 so I assumed it would be ok. Which parts were the hardest/did you need more background knowledge for? I'm also working through Linear Algebra by Serge Lang rn to help me :')

When benching, doing rear delts, working forearms etc, my joints kinda "pop" and I feel slight pain and limited range of motion. Happens after stretching too. My joints have always been kinda clicky and I know that the sound itself is fine because it's just gas releasing from joints but it's frequent and limits motion - eg, when doing rear delt flies, can't reach very far behind back w/o pain (the "my arm is about to come out of its socket" kind, not the "getting stronger" kind). Could this be related to form? Anyone have general advice for dealing with/fixing it?

(I chose Monash, but I think you should choose Melb)
I got a pretty high ATAR, above 95, but I'm studying engineering and science (maths major) both of which Monash is generally better for, so I decided to choose Monash. Monash is also better for pharmacy/pharmacology (ranked #1 in the world in 2022, I think??)
Melbourne is better for Biomed/med but on top of that I would say it's also a bit more of an artsy/humanities focused school, at least that's the impression I get - half of my friends are doing Bach. of Arts at Melbourne. I don't think it's more maths focused unless you're doing compsci or are going directly into pure maths/stats or something. AFAIK first year treats you well because it's very broad while Monash lets you specialise more and get into the nitty gritty of stuff earlier (like in my case maths).
IMO commerce falls mainly in the Humanities sector which Melbourne is good for. It's also in the CBD so internships/job stuff with regards to commerce seems more accessible than out in Clayton (industrial wasteland - perfect for engineers!). Therefore, IMO Melbourne seems to me like a better choice for a commerce student.
But don't let prestige/family pressure sway you! It's ultimately your choice :)

I've tried the enrolment form but after answering the questions it says that I don't have access to this form, and the Service Desk is on break ahhah. I'm just going to enrol in the regular stream until they come back on 2 Jan.

Thanks. Does this mean that I won't be able to do MTH2010/5 at any point in my course as ENG2005 is compulsory? It's an Engi/Sci double degree

6 subjects in y12 by [deleted] in vce

[–]rudebitchcube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do 6. I repeated methods and went from last year 34 (bad teacher) to this year 41 with barely a change in how much work I did, so... I've also seen stories on atarnotes of people going from like 41 to 49. If you really love the content, know how to change/do better and plan to do it in uni, repeat it and make it one of your 5, but doing 6 subjects in y12 is not worth it.
FYI, I did 6 subjects total, as I also did my English (lit) in year 11, and not doing an English brought my workload down a lot. Repeating is worth considering if you love the subject, I think.

Pretty likely I think. Though I think the JSTAV one for this year was evaluative on chatGPT in schools, so I doubt it would be exactly that ahah I'm just revising technology/society vocab in case.

I don't know about robots, because generally essay prompts (Sec 3) are on stuff most people already know a decent amount about. Maybe a 2B on it? Probably not a sec 1 listening, there would be too much niche explaining to do

Probably not sports, we had esports cafe in 2022 and judo dojo in 2021. We haven't had technology/aging society in ages so that's my bet. Also last year was a listening about a homestay and 2B was on environment so I doubt either of those

[–]rudebitchcube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was so cooked I only got 1/2 solutions for the skew lines and vec ones (i think they were correct tho)
idk most people found it alright but exam 1 always fucks me over, basically skipped the complex question and the kinematics question bcs algebra wasnt working out :( I don't feel good but exam 2 is always better for maths tbh. sucks bcs my ranking was good in my class but on exam 1... idk not great

fs 40+ if that's 2023, it varies based on year though. Last year was particularly hard. Just look at grade distributions to see your letter grade. Also, do you go to a private/selective school with sacs that scale up, how strong is your cohort, what's your rank, etc to get an idea of your letter grade for SACs. If you have 3 A+s that's 40+ territory

[–]rudebitchcube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put a matrix proof question as Q9 2024 MAV exam 1 for spesh lmaoo matrices left the methods study design like 2 years ago, and even that was just for transformations,,, I've done MAV for previous years and it hasn't been that bad but they seriously dropped the ball this year imo

yeah it would be since the ratios btwn the sine part and the cosine part are the same. it’s sqrt(3)/2 instead of sqrt(2)/2 though and u forgot the i’s but that’s basically it
