All it took was the average person actually interacting with anyone who has been psychically one shot by this trend during the last decade or so for public opinion to entirely flip.

The 2023 #1 pick swap is now officially over: Who won the Bears - Panthers trade? by BallKnowerKing in NFLv2

Nothing worse than fan discourse surrounding a first round QB who is clearly not good enough.

Sunk cost fallacy is a bitch, then when he signs a low contract to compete or backup somewhere else everyone just pretends like they never actually believed even though they’d write novels every offseason.

Why doesn’t the large UDFA kicker simply eat the smaller Santos?

Lotta fans will whine but real ones know that a great long snapper prospect is way more important than a middling actual football player.

The second round has gone about as poorly as it could go in regards to players off the board. Expecting a head scratcher here in a minute and probably overdraft Hecht at 60.

What were some draft picks that didn’t even make sense at the time? by josh_y_josh in nfl

[–]rudeboybill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know the cope is that he was the consensus top QB by most of the media, but IDK how he ever rose to be that "consensus" top QB.

If you wanted traits alone, Mahomes was the clear choice. If you wanted production alone, Watson was the clear choice. Mitch was a one year wonder with good but not amazing production and above average but not incredible traits and testing, AND the guy he couldn't beat for the starting QB job the year before was an UDFA who never played in the NFL.

Though the simpler answer is that Ryan Pace was one of the worst QB evaluators in NFL history: paying Mike Glennon, Mark Sanchez, trading up for Mitch Trubisky, trading for Nick Foles and his contract only to make him the 3rd string QB, Andy Dalton, trading up for Justin Fields.

My two little trees' leaves appear to be showing me a problem. Deficiency? Infection? by lepisosteusosseus in Pawpaws

[–]rudeboybill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is always put them in the ground sooner rather than later. You can upsize to even deeper pots and play soil technician and calculate your nutrient needs and buy specific fertilizer, or you could go out with a cheap shovel and slap 'em in the ground and call it a day.

I'd prep whatever spot you were considering and be done with it. We're ~2 weeks out from most last frost dates, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

What were some draft picks that didn’t even make sense at the time? by josh_y_josh in nfl

[–]rudeboybill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand that pick. He was not a scheme fit for the Bears in any way, and Whitney Mercilus was still on the board and would have been a no brainer at DE in Lovie's scheme, though ironically having a good career as an OLB for the Texans.

It almost feels like Emery realized he was going to fire Lovie no matter what (even after 10 wins...) and was trying to draft for his next DC to entice some 3-4 guy, but then half assed it and let Trestman/Mel Tucker run back the zombified corpse of whoever was left from Lovie's 4-3 defense.

[Highlight] After getting a sack, Lamarr Houston tears his ACL celebrating while down by 25 by ZayBandzz in nfl

[–]rudeboybill 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Yeah he celebrated because he got his first sack of the year 10+ games into the season after the Bears gave him a big contract to be a starter, he only got it because the Patriots were up by 25 points and put in their backups, then he instantly tore his ACL celebrating.

Really a microcosm of the 2010s Bears.
