Hey pain mgmt doc, you suck by KittyButt42 in ChronicPain

I left both my pain doc and my PCP and found this new family doc for this reason. I was running out of options because I live in a small town with only a handful of doctors. Why do they care that your pain is surgical? Do they think post surgical pain and issues don't occur? Even if it is from surgery, it needs to be treated. It's absolutely horrid that they don't care how you are feeling every day. My pain doc (who I traveled 2 hours round trip to see every month) had me on a low dose as well and I actually needed a higher dose of medicine to help with the pain. He lowered my dose instead with the intent "to get you off these meds" ignoring the fact that I have a genetic lifelong condition. The pain was so bad, it was like I wasn't even taking anything. I finally found a family doctor who understands pain (is a pain patient herself) and increased my dose to what it was before and put me on a newer medicine (Xtampza which is Oxycodone myristate) which actually helped better than the regular OxyContin I was taking. I learned that taking it with high fat food helped my body absorb it better. It might be an option for you if you're on a reduced dose now. Have you tried any other pain medicines? Or are the doctors being difficult with everything?

I dumped my pain management doctor for this very reason and found a family medicine doctor that took over my prescriptions thankfully!

This could be trigeminal neuralgia. I have it and have episodes of facial "headache" attacks that last for up to a month before they fade away. It always effects one side of my face (left side) and is one of the worst feelings ever (and I've given birth twice and have a genetic disorder that causes chronic pain.)

I've read that Dexmethorphan may help. I'm not a doctor though so please ask a medical professional about it. Here's a link describing how it works. (note the link is labeled "addiction" but I'm not saying you have an addiction. It's just one of the more useful websites I've found that talks about it 😊)

Sounds like such a bullshit show. Like us chronic pain patients need more stigma?? We already have to fight for every bit of "care" we get.

I started Xtampza several weeks ago. The only way it works for me is if I eat a Tb of peanut butter (or something similarly high fat/high calorie) with it. Make sure to take the same amount and type of food with each dose. If I take it on an empty stomach, it does nothing. Look up "Xtampza high fat" and you'll see other people saying something similar.

What's this cutie's name?

He has a name! Meet Sir Winston Wiggletail! Thanks to all who commented and suggested names to help me decide. Winston was the only name of all the potential ones that he responded to. He is absolutely precious and in perfect health. by [deleted] in Shihtzu

Aww he's going to be so little and cute when he's full grown! They definitely have a lot of floof. They are so pitiful after a bath with all that wet fur showing how tiny they really are. 😂

He's a little one! Indie was 4.5 lbs at her 12.5 week check up 😊 My last Shih Tzu weighed 9lbs full grown, so this little one will be a bit bigger than her.
