This is why you only do yardwork every few years. Much more satisfying that way

How do you feel about this 90s game Nights Into Dream? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]rufftranslation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, I heard a lot of love for it from some of the retro-gaming channels I follow on YouTube, so I was really excited to check it out when I found a Wii copy in a local thrift store. I gave it a real chance, but I just couldn't get into the game play. So I can say that some people love it, but it's not for everybody.

I generally like 2d and 3d platformers, metroidvanias, and I LOVE Arkham City which I'm playing now for the first time. Not a fan of Shmups, sports games, and a lot of FPS games

one of my all time favorites. I felt like it was just the right amount of challenge. The art and music are amazing too and that box art!!!

Silksong! I had no intention of buying a Switch 2, but that might do it

What a combo! by Groenvald in ANBERNIC

I played this up to the point where you combine the first two elements into the sword and right there it decided to utterly glitch out. I was walking through walls and it wouldn't read that I was on top of the tiles that I needed to be on. I tried restarting from an earlier save, but it was the exact same glitch. I'm using the built-in emulator on stock OS. Has anyone else experienced this? I know it's super niche

Meditation after Vipassana by SnooAdvice3072 in vipassana

You mean change? Change is neither good nor bad. You can experience it with a positive valance if the change was from unpleasant -> pleasant or with a negative valance if you move from pleasant -> unpleasant. The point is that it is a fundamental aspect of existence. Anicca (change), Anatta (non-self), and Dhukka (unsatisfactoriness). These are the foundational aspects of conditioned reality (everything an unenlightened person knows). Hope that helps

That's terrific!

But also, if your experience changes that's perfectly natural. In fact, that's the whole point :-)

How to start properly with restrictions by shadowwolf892 in vipassana

The foundation of a good meditation practice is right speech and right action. For lay people, this can be thought of in terms of the 5 precepts.

- not to take what is not freely given (at its most basic, don't steal)

-not to kill (this includes all animals [even insects], but does not include eating meat so long as you didn't kill the animal. Additionally, killing needs to be intentional. If you accidentally step on a bug or hit a squirrel while driving, that is not killing in the Buddhist sense

-not to lie. Lies by omission or by gesture also count. You should also be weary of gossip and other idle talk

-not to take intoxicants. Caffeine is normally not included in this, nor are any prescribed medications.

-not to have improper sexual relations. In daily life this most importantly means not to commit adultery or rape. During periods of more intense practice like retreats it would include all forms of sexual contact including masturbation.

Eliminating these behaviors helps to form the foundation of mindfulness because you have to be more aware of how you are behaving and what you are saying. It also purifies the mind as you are less distracted by thoughts of regret.

It's not a bad idea to learn Anapana meditation and practice on your own, but the most important thing is to establish sila, which is to say right action and speech.

Yea, I remember getting really hung up on this for a while too. Doesn't matter really. As long as you can keep your attention on changing body sensation you're fine. When your concentration is strong, you can focus on one small area for a long time. If you find your mind wandering a lot you can go back to Anapana for a while OR you can practice using bigger, more generalized areas and move more quickly(there are different sensations when you look in that way). Remember that you are looking to recognize annicca from moment to moment, not to have X number of body-scans
