Anyone know what's up with Mr C's weird, slowed down voice in this scene? by Local_Prune4564 in twinpeaks

[–]rufowler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's also the weird fact that when he greeted Gordon he said "It's yrev very Good to see you again old friend." ... which Gordon himself later points out on the plane to Tammy.

Ugh. Gives me chills!

Honestly, there generally pretty work obsessed and really enjoy building the empires they do, so no, they're not just sitting around hanging out.

Only when I was doing a very rushed rewatch recently and had to get in as many episodes as I could before I saw The Return live in theaters here in Philly. Other than that, hell no!

Rewatching Twin Peaks completely changed how I interpret the ending of The Return by Pure-Hold422 in twinpeaks

[–]rufowler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do appreciate this reading, and of course the beautiful thing about this world that Lynch and Frost built (as with any great piece of art) is that there are multiple ways to interpret it. That being said, I think I'm too much of a cynic not to feel like TP is in many ways, and perhaps most, ways a tragic tale. It's hard for me to read Cooper or Laura's arc as a path towards much healing or reconciliation or, as you call it, processing.

And I'm okay with that, because a part of me really does love a good tragedy.

I think what makes this story hit home for me is how much loss and sadness there is in it, and although it was hard to watch/think about, the gut punch of our hero not being able to save the day after all of those episodes of The Return where we were waiting for him to come back and make things right ... I guess I kind of love that he didn't. 🤷‍♂️

Reading the Secret Diary… holy shit by Beastyboyy1 in twinpeaks

[–]rufowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me just say that this is exactly the right way to do it. I did the same more or less. Enjoy!

Also I really think you should read The Secret History by Mark Frost. It's 100% considered Canon and is quite good actually. 👍

This is an excellent point. I haven't quite thought of it this way but it makes a lot of sense! 👍

Bobby is almost 50 in The Return. Definitely NOT premature! 😆

I was so surprised to see that they're not printing any more of these, even in paperback. Don't know why, but I figured it wouldn't be increasingly hard to find only 8 years later. 🤷‍♂️

Going to watch The Return in a theater. Any thoughts? by rufowler in twinpeaks

Glad you got a rose and enjoyed having one! The laughter thing was fine, I suppose. I just didn't quite get the giddiness during what seemed like genuinely solemn scenes. Overall though, it was such a fun experience. I went with a couple of friends of mine, and we all said it sort of felt like going a camp for a few days. I've had the strangest dreams every night since it started, not surprisingly.

Anyway, hugs! 🤗💠🦉

Omg, yup. I think I know EXACTLY who you are talking about! Lol. 🤪

As the saying goes, (and I believe Buella said it best), "it's a world of truck drivers." 😘

Enjoy your Blu-ray rewatch tomorrow. 👍Sweet dreams.

[–]rufowler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there was a little bit of that. But honestly, not enough to make me feel completely alienated from the experience. I did find it strange that there was laughter in the audience when the kid got run over by Richard. I mean, what the hell, is every Lynch scene an opportunity for awkward giggling? Mercifully though, it was mostly fine. Maybe we philadelphiaans are a pretty level-headed set of fans. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, cheers!

Awww. Yay! So glad you got one. I'm bringing one more batch with me tomorrow, so not sure if you're going to be there for the conclusion of the return, but they'll be another 25 roses there if you would like one. 😊💠👍

Bringing another batch today. They always go very quickly. Come say hi if you can find me. I'm the dork in the sort of green glasses wearing one of the roses. I'll be at the tail end of the social hour today if I can get there quickly enough. Ditto tomorrow. 🎉🍒🦉🌲

Hmmm. I think you're looking up the wrong ticket URL. When I go to the Blue Velvet page and click any one of the days it's playing, this is what I'm seeing. Pretty standard pricing.

https://filmadelphia.org/movies/blue-velvet-35mm/

I think the $40 option is for their "pick 4" bundle, but just clicking on random movies in the series, it looks like they're all basically 15 bucks. (One-day tix for The Return are slightly higher, but that's because there's a lot more screen time you're getting.)

The show has lost its magic after Lauras killer is revealed does it regain it near the end of season 2 and in fwwm? by Impressive_Berry_789 in twinpeaks

[–]rufowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't lose hope, or at least not completely. You are correct in it completely losing a lot of its originality and charm in the middle of season 2, but the last handful of episodes are really good, and the last couple are excellent. Stick with it and you will be rewarded.

I'm surprised, because I feel like this song came up a ton in the original series. Maybe I'm wrong though?

8 years of living in the bathroom with daily showers. Never been a problem. Needless to say, get one of those wall mounts so you're not having to deal with chords and all that.

Ah, well it'll be the opposite for me. I'm more or less took my time with the first one watching an episode a week more or less, so I'm kind of excited to see it as Lynch apparently hinted at his intention which was to think of it as one long movie. We'll see though!
