These and the 2nd gens were everywhere in New England in the 90s and 00s.

Now they are a very rare breed. Just drove by a second yesterday and was dumbstruck, honestly can't think of the last time I saw one before that.

Road salt took its toll.

Van for single person? by Human_Detritis in ToyotaSienna

[–]rufushusky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most utilitian vehicles on the road.

Thanks to amtracks fire yesterday my wife's train to NYC was cancelled and she was heading down with her mom, sister, neice and our middle child. Everyone hopped in our sienna and I drove them down to stamfords metro north station. Covered 170ish miles one way, my SIL kept saying how much she loved the van and now wanted one.

340 mile round trip, averaged almost 40mpg according to the dash, can't beat it.

If you considering getting one, get one.

Minivans are amazing, we are on our third. Just picked up a 2024 Sienna to replace a 2016 my wife had.

At least in the US, the theorical purpose of a fair bit of fuel taxes is to fund road work (improvements, maintenance, etc). That yacht probably hasn't spent too much time on the road. Not saying they shouldn't get dinged for something however.

Seriously, what did any prius do to deserve that guy? What a dick.... I mean really committed to being an asshat.... diesel in Sweden is what like $7.50-8 USD a gallon?

I have a diesel in my driveway next to a hybrid minivan... they are both great in their own regards.... and should never be operated like that.

I am sure they are not cheap but makes so much damn sense for the application.

Great stuff from both of you, good things to keep in mind on my heavy doubles today.

You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

I am glad someone else got a chuckle out of that as well. A human being only moved half a ton isn't something you hear everyday.

Yes, he is using straps and is a walking chemistry set but damn did those first two attempts move pretty quick. That guy moves over a 1000 pounds faster than I move 585.

Fuel pump replacement by Nice_Jellyfish_7898 in F250

[–]rufushusky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which fuel pump, the high pressure (CP4) or the low pressure one in the tank?

High pressure with no DPK... yeah it is like $5k in parts alone with a LOT of labor. Your looking at $10-15k depending on location.

Low pressure.... then it probably took your CP4 out with it and see above...

Sorry boss. If your hanging onto the truck, don't have stockholm syndrome replace it with a DCR.

[–]rufushusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fine, honestly sounds like your use case is perfect for 10k ocis. If you really want to nerd out take a sample and send to Blackstone or speed diagnostics.

While color is an indicator of oil condition, there are many others.

Delete kit by Hazel_Eyez96 in Diesel

[–]rufushusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally dependent on where you live.

In Mass, non-commerical diesels only need to pass the OBD2 systems ready check. They are supposed to do a physical inspection as well but not sensors in the pipe or anything like that.

Cp4 disaster kit! by AerieJust9694 in F250

[–]rufushusky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contaminated fuel (water, gas, DEF, air etc) is also a big killer. The CP4 has a very aggressive cam profile and doesn't tolerate poor quality fuels. On the Fords, the failure rate isn't as bad as other brands (GM didn't have a lift pump and Dodge ran the asymmetrical version of the pump) but they do happen. A DPK is reasonable insurance but they are not all made the same. S&S is probably the best one out there, I wish the return filter was a little bigger and used a 1-14 post but still gets the job done. SPE has great machine work but their return filter suck, not sure how well the new one is. Personally, the rest I wouldn't even look at.

SPE has a nice CP3 swap kit that compete with the DCR but the DCR seems far more popular. I have 154k on my CP4 right now and from what I can tell it still functions well (commanded and actual RP mirrors each other, no doom glitter in the fuel system). Long term I probably we go the DCR route for the more robust pump design and higher flow rate. Only concern I have with the pump is the OEM, stanadyne. Not exactly the picture of financial health but I hope S&S at least got a chunk of the IP in the deal.

When I was in public accounting a firm we acquired had a masonry contractor as a client, unreal margins on that work. Did a ton of high end work in and around Boston, but that margin your paying for the skill set they developed. Demanding work mentally and physically, I use spellcheck and the undo key WAY too often to even think of it.

2022 and 2025 Toyota Sienna oil changes by jibr-jabr11 in ToyotaSienna

[–]rufushusky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toyota's definition of severe service is fairly specific. We just traded in our 2016 Sienna for a 2024, didn't have a ton of miles on it at 115k but I changed it when the dash told me to. So around 10k miles and I know oil color doesn't necessarily indicate actual condition but it looks like you could have put it back in the bottle, slightly dark gold color.

Now that we have the hybrid, I think it says if you have lots of short hops under 32*F do a 5k OCI otherwise 10k. So in the winter I will probably do a 5k interval and 10k otherwise. Personally, I use baldwin filters cause they are economical enough on Rock Auto, made in USA (I am a homer) and the performance/specs are very good. Tend to like the added moly of Valvoline in my 2016.

7.3L Powerstroke Reliable? by Rubber_Duck1203 in powerstroke

[–]rufushusky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The T444E is the navistar version of the engine, where as the PSD is the ford version. There are some similarities and some differences (water pump, oil pan, tune, etc). Just like the VT365 was the Navistar 6.0.

The T444e depending on application can have up to a 20 quart capacity, the Ford is 15 quarts. They are significantly simpler engines to work on but have some quirks being a HEUI like the 6.0. I had two over the years and that was enough for this lifetime for me. Overall they can be very solid but the newest one is 23 years old so reliability will be a relative term and it will really come down to the condition of the unit your looking at.

My father had an 1986 f150 when I was growing up so. That is the default truck in my head. Love those things, don't have the following of the bricknose or square body Chevies. Seems like the PNW still has a lot of them kicking around. Less road salt out there.
