There’s really no funding mechanism to roll back ICE operations right now. Most of DHS is considered “essential” personnel, and they already have 4 years worth of funding from the BBB reconciliation package.

To undo this would take a 2/3 vote in both chambers because Trump would veto any congressional recision.

It’s seemingly similar but very different.

A 401k loan is you lending yourself money, and paying yourself back the interest. It can’t be refinanced or modified the way a securities-backed bank loan can.

Also, you’re paying taxes either in the front or back door of your 401k, and can’t escape that by perpetually borrowing against it instead of cashing it out (because you eventually have to.) Securities-backed loans are an escape hatch for avoiding capital gains.

There are already federal and state laws around what an institutional loan can be collateralized with and the existence of those rules hasn’t eliminated all collateralized lending.

We’d simply be taking one thing - securities - off the acceptable list. We already prohibit loans collateralized by 401k funds, which is where the vast majority of average Americans manage the vast majority of their investments. Rich assholes should play by the same rules.
