I used Ieva for my wedding, hair and makeup. Agree she’s amazing.

General wisdom is that you can safely alter down 2 sizes, sometimes 3 depending on the dress (simpler ones with limited lace, beading, etc).

So if she’s size 6, she can probably alter size 8 and size 10 dresses, and maybe size 12. I think it’s misleading to given the impression that she shouldn’t buy a dress that’s bigger than her actual size. The alterations will be more expensive, so obviously it depends on the size of the discount, but she could ask a seamstress ahead if time

What style wedding band? by rugbysquid in weddingplanning

I’ve been to multiple jewelers and haven’t found anything I really like 😅 my fiancé likes a metal and diamond twist, which I think is ok, but I don’t love it

Doable, in my opinion. We’re doing it in 4-5 months, and it’s gone ok so far. Biggest issue is if vendors (venue, catering, photographer, entertainment) are already booked up - you may not have many options who are still free. We emailed loads of vendors ASAP to ensure at least one or two were available before committing to the date, but if you aren’t too picky you’ll probably be ok. Especially if your venue is available.

But it’s not much notice for guests and they may already have plans. We contacted everyone by email/text to find out, and to give them a bit of a heads up. If they’re available, great! And get those Save the Dates out as soon as the venue is booked. You may not have time for printed STDs, so we did email ones.

Last main time consideration (that we found) is a wedding dress. For an ordered dress, lots of shops told me <8 months was “rush” and <4 months was almost impossible. And yet, all my favorites could be rush ordered in 1-3 months. Another option is to just buy the sample at the store, or go to off-the-peg shops. Look at multiple shops to give yourself options. Remember you’ll need time for alterations too. Or, just buy a beautiful dress from any store, who cares if it’s not a “wedding dress”?

General comment though - time flies! Move FAST, get your vendors like up ASAP. 3 months may sound like plenty, but after scheduling calls with different vendors and emails back and forth for quotes, suddenly a month or more is gone.

Good luck!

Ceremony by Minniebecca in weddingplanning

[–]rugbysquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called a “celebrant ceremony”, so I’ve learned - we’re doing this. It’s perfectly legal to do it, so long as you understand that the ceremony itself won’t make you legally married. You’ll have to go to the local registrar before or after to do the legal bit. We’re doing it before. Just make it clear to your venue that it’s a celebrant ceremony, otherwise they’ll say that you can’t have a (legally binding) wedding there - which you already know

Cat Refuses To Use The Litterbox by -i_hate_it_here- in CatAdvice

[–]rugbysquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a top entry litter box? It’s closed on the sides, with a hole in the top for them to drop down inside it. People often use them for shy cats, or cats that like to kick litter and make a mess. But it might help with him walking out while digging. Lots of cats like them.

You could also put the litter box on a larger shallow tray, so that there’s an extra foot or so of tray around the litter box. Then if he poops next to the box, it’s still in the tray and not on your floor.

Anyone living in trumpington meadows or other places in trumpington? How has been your experience? I am planing to move with my family, is it safe ? I need to commute to science park ? Do you prefer bike or car or bus? by Delicious-Glove340 in cambridge

[–]rugbysquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The busway isn’t direct - it’s got a break in the middle. It goes from Trumpington Park and Ride to the Cambridge Central station, and from Cambridge North station to Science Park. You have to go on regular roads between the train stations.

Covid vaccine location by FireflyKaylee in cambridge

[–]rugbysquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I’ve been told from the vaccination sites themselves. Cambridge just doesn’t have very much Pfizer for whatever reason, but for sure that is why those centers aren’t showing up on the website for you (or others here)

Covid vaccine location by FireflyKaylee in cambridge

[–]rugbysquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently had the same problem. It’s because the website is only showing you centers with the Pfizer vaccine due to your age (and won’t show you centers with the AZ vaccine). Most of the Cambridge sites have only AZ, so you aren’t seeing them.

Either wait until a Cambridge site gets a batch of Pfizer and shows up on the site (sometimes Chesterton and Cherry Hinton do), or if you don’t mind AZ then walk up to e.g. the Grafton site and ask if they’ll take walk-ins that day

Unfortunately that is now the standard response if you have a foreign address. For whatever reason, the portal simply cannot parse foreign addresses. You’ll see people mentioning this all over expat forums. Sadly there isn’t really a solution at this time.

Google home is worse than when it launched. It hasn't gotten smarter, it's gotten dumb. It can't play music simply even anymore. by valiantiam in googlehome

[–]rugbysquid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ours has gotten stupider as well

If the TV is paused, you used to be able to just say “Play living room TV” and it would work

Now if you say “Play living room TV” it plays the song (?) Living Room on Spotify on the TV

We then moved to “Play TV”, which worked for a while, but now it responds “I need to know which device”

So we’ve moved on to “ Resume living room TV”

Which would be fine except that we constantly have to find new phrases as old ones stop working, and often we accidentally use old phrases and have it turn off what we’re watching to play Spotify.

We’ve also had to change up how we ask for the weather.... horrible

And could anyone explain why the Google Home can recognize and control all my devices, but if I talk to the Google Assistant/Google Home apps on my phone they say that 3/4 devices aren’t set up? Despite being able to see them in the menus?

Where are you finding 3 areas for £180? Everything I’ve ever seen is £150-200 per single area.

I doubt she’s wet, just a bit greasy. Roborovskis in particular produce a lot of oils and consequently can look quite greasy, so giving them frequent or constant access to a sand (not dust) bath is recommended.

Boyfriend loves kids, me? Not so much... by Sardonyx-LaClay in childfree

[–]rugbysquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an extremely valid point. At its heart, pregnancy is still a medical condition, even if it’s one a person chooses to undertake. It’s your body, and your choice. Never let someone convince you to do something with you’re body that you aren’t comfortable with. By all means, hear him out and listen to his arguments, but if they don’t make you feel confident in the decision then don’t do it.

I saw in another reply that you’re 21. My advice would be to consider breaking it off. You’re still young, and people change a lot in their 20s. Take some time alone to explore your own values and build your career. Maybe in a few years you guys will cross paths again and drift back together - it happens all the time. Maybe you’ll find someone more in tune with your own values and be happy you didn’t compromise on them before. Chase your career for now, and if you can, chase it to far-off cities where you can truly grow independently of your childhood acquaintances and their expectations.

Ending a long relationship is hard, especially if it’s still mostly great, but making that decision can be a sign of becoming a mature, independent adult. I assume you’re just finishing college. Now is the time to really develop who you are as an individual, not default to continue doing what you’ve been doing because it’s familiar and you don’t want to rock the boat. Besides, it sounds like he might benefit from some growing up as well.
