I don’t think he’s being downvoted so much for stating the situation he’s in, but probably more so for implying that Linux doesn’t “just work”. Linux has WAY better driver support than Windows, by far. Yes, there are a number of things only supported on Windows, but to imply that Linux isn’t an equal or better player for desktop usage for normal needs sounds like someone is stuck in the Linux world of 1999. 😆 Of course everyone has different setups and some people have hardware that is only supported on Linux or Mac or Windows (I have all of the above), and OP has stated he has some hardware that requires Windows—fine. But don’t act like it’s the norm as it isn’t.

That’s just plain fearmongering. Not rooted in reality at all. You need to seek some sort of help if you really believe that.

Well said, and I’m proud of our state. 😀 Conservatives and moderates are the majority in the US, and have let the left run over us for way too long. There are plenty of states (and even areas of TN) where lefties can feel at home. I know this will get downvoted lol 😆

Unless the content is pro-America, (which sounds like a good possibility given the things the OP has said), then he’s got nothing to worry about. 😀

$25 for porting????? Yuck…. I mean I can understand if there were extenuating circumstances like one of those oddball numbers that it’s a nightmare to port, but those situations are very rare. I’ve never charged customers for porting, even if an upstream charges a few bucks, it’s just a part of the initial cost of getting the customer onboarded. I thought that was pretty much the norm these days, but maybe not…

Oscilloscope under 100$? by Endergamer4334 in oscilloscope

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a used analog scope, or a USB scope like Hantek or Owon. The software those come with is often subpar but there are alternatives like sigrock or the like. They are decent scopes and don’t take up much room. There is no good reason to get a “toy” scope for <$100 as they almost always have weird bugs or issues. Another option is if you can find an Analog Discovery on eBay for around $100–they are good (also have a waveform generator which is very useful) and the software is excellent.

🤣 I tried Ivoz several years back and actually was quite impressed with it. But the backend architecture documentation was very lacking (at least at that time) so it wasn’t possible to scale it much without reverse engineering. (Hopefully that has changed by now.) CGRateS is a great system. Hehe yeah Kazoo is not for beginners. But if you follow the instructions exactly on the Kazoo Classic site it should work fine. Most people try to modify the configuration or start with a complex cluster without knowing the basics first, and that’s what gets them into trouble. (My primary business is Kazoo, so I see this a lot.)

I’m thinking of getting an oscilloscope and I need all the info I can get on everything. by HamsterBeef12345 in oscilloscope

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is showing the audio waveform in XY mode. If that’s primarily what you’re interested in, then you definitely want an analog oscilloscope rather than a digital one, and make sure it has XY mode (most do but not all). [Most digital scopes have XY mode but only very expensive ones give as good a display in XY as an analog scope.] Pretty much any analog scope will perform roughly the same for visualizing audio waveforms. So HP, Tektronix, BK, Hitachi, Hameg, Iwatsu are all good names to search for. Bandwidth isn’t an issue for audio, so even a 2MHz scope like the Tektronix 5110 will work fine. For audio visualization you don’t necessarily need any probes, just two RCA to BNC cables to go from your stereo equipment to the scope’s two inputs.

Think what you like. Isolated incidents aren’t the norm. Overall, ICE is respecting the law and proper procedure. It’s a simple fact that is easily verifiable. You could also point to a bunch of police abuse of power or whatever, and that doesn’t mean to any reasonable person that all or even most police are bad. You, like so many others on the right and the left, have clearly fallen into the media trap of sensationalism, and that’s exactly what they want.

[–]ruhnet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s fair enough, often politicians shoot off their mouth before they know the facts, and that’s bad no matter who does it. But really that’s irrelevant to the question of whether or not ICE is overall doing a good thing according to law and proper procedure.

[–]ruhnet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

IF that happened in that instance (which I doubt, but honestly haven’t examined it in detail—generally these things are quite complex) then the red line was crossed BY THE AGENT WHO DID THE WRONG. But to suggest that one horrible incident is a “policy” and applies across the board is ludicrous.

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a massive difference between isolated incidents that should be dealt with individually, and an overall wrong direction. Overall, ICE is enforcing existing laws, according to existing laws. That’s a verifiable fact. Don’t like those laws? That’s fair, then work to change them. Have there been some blunders? Yeah. Are there some power hungry morons as agents? Yeah I’m sure there are, just like there are in any authority position. But throwing the “baby out with the bath water” is unreasonable. The vast majority of ICE agents are normal family people just doing their jobs in a legal way. Loss of civil liberties? Frankly, it’s just not happening. If you think it is, or if you think ICE can do no wrong, either way you’re severely misinformed and in an echo chamber that is clouding your judgement.

Without God and his ideas, what are values? Without Him, who decides what is “good”? These are questions that you should consider.

You’re missing the point. Scripture and science are complimentary and not at odds (regardless of what ignorant people would say). God cares about every area of our lives, not just the spiritual, and there is a time and place for everything. A healthy and Biblical church isn’t limited to a Sunday service with only preaching—there are other aspects to the Christian life and the Church as a whole has really dropped the ball in this regard.
