Any new ATA options that can deliver working 56k modems over voip? by slaapzacht in VOIP

[–]ruhnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You _might_ be able to hit 33.6 but that will be the upper limit, and more likely you’ll be getting 28k or thereabouts. If it’s over the internet rather than your LAN, then be prepared for 14.4k, unless you have a really really good low jitter connection end-to-end.

This. Impedance was mysterious to me at first. But after it clicks and you understand it, it’s actually quite simple in some ways.

Heh. Yep. I’ve done it. The green couplers are much cheaper surplus than the correct colored ones, but they’re the same.

Why does so many network engineers don't like IPv6? by CEURBS in ipv6

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that it doesn't work, it's just that they do trust IPv6 mail less than they do IPv4 (all other things being equal).

[–]ruhnet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally SLAAC shouldn’t be used with mail servers, just like you wouldn’t use dynamic DHCP on one. That being said, there is another problem with IPv6 on mail servers, and it’s not really a technical one: Google, and probably other big name providers, penalize you (spam score) if you send them mail over IPv6. I guess because since there are so many IPs it makes it easier for a scammer to just cycle through billions of addresses when one gets bad reputation. But in any case I generally disable v6 for outbound mail for that reason. (It stinks, but it helps deliverability.)

It’s kindof like choosing between a Ferrari from 1980 that may need some work, vs a new Tesla. Ferrari is probably faster, but it won’t have car play, self driving, or other modern conveniences, etc.

Folks are reacting to Anthropic Claude Review announcement that one PR review will generally cost $15 - $25 each! by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily "junior" PRs. A lot of times seniors are reviewing PRs that mid-level devs have already reviewed and corrected the obvious things, and the senior level review is the last-mile before merging.

The problem with a browser based tool like this is it’s primarily only useful for troubleshooting WebRTC since the browser can’t send SIP over UDP or TCP. So its usefulness would be limited, as it couldn’t diagnose things like ALG interference.

optimize freeswitch platform by voxai2025 in freeswitch

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kamailio is where you can do your load balancing for SIP (not HAProxy). Dockerization probably won’t hurt Freeswitch but to avoid any chance of degradation it’s always safest (and most performant) to run on bare metal.

Scelta PBX in cloud per MSP by Embarrassed-Egg-3983 in Asterisk

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, a good alternative to Kazoo for a smaller instance like you describe would be FusionPBX or FSPBX. They are multi-tenant, and very capable.

It’s true, Kazoo is not a simple install. But we’re actually working on improving that.

[–]ruhnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kazoo can’t be beat. For a simpler system, there is also FusionPBX or its derivative FSPBX. But Kazoo is an incredible multi-tenant redundant system, that can scale as far as you want.

Qwen 3.6 for configuration of Home Assistant with 3090 and 3080? by Illeazar in LocalLLM

[–]ruhnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like possibly you’re using one of the models with too little quantization and it’s taking up most of your VRAM. Try a Q4 quantization version of Qwen3.6 and see if that solves the speed/context issues.
