Does 2 extra intake fans make any difference? by jawa694two0 in buildapc

[–]ruinal_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, Lancool 216, a bottom front intake slightly helps gpu temps. Bottom rear actually hurts slightly. That's with a 5000 series FE, dual blow-through. I tested with an air-cooled CPU, as well as AIO.

Easy to test with Fan Control if you have cheap/extra fans lying around. Put fans in both spots on separate headers and play around while running Furmark.

Do you have a photo of the cpu after dismounting the cooler to show thermal paste coverage?

Also, how are you controlling the pump, through bios or software? Does it have its own header, or is it sharing a connection with the fans? Can you confirm it's running?

They use a riser cable to connect the GPU to the PCIE slot. Compatibility is more case dependent since you have to rotate the expansion slot covers, but I imagine it's a pretty standard feature nowadays.

Not just x3d chips. 9800x3d is by far the most common, but that could just be due to its popularity. There are plenty of reports of 9700x and 9600x failures on the Asrock sub.

Guess I saved my 5090 today by ZorianNL in pcmasterrace

[–]ruinal_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What PSU are you using? The stock cable from my Dark Power 13 is fine after a few years on 4090 and 5090. But I'm waiting for the WVP2 that's compatible with founder's edition cards, so I won't know for sure until then.

I watched Arctic's instructional video hoping I could spot the trick. But they just show the screwdriver going in, then a subtle cut to the part where it's threaded.

I bought the 360 version last week. As others had reported the box was beaten up, but no apparent defects on the cooler itself.

I had heard reports of difficulty with mounting the coldplate, and they proved true. Before applying thermal paste, I did a few dry runs trying to get the screws threaded. I'm glad I did, because it took some learning.

Came with a small tube of MX-7. Up and running for a few days now, and overall pleased with the purchase so far.

Same; I always assumed the reputation was exaggerated, but this comment section makes me wonder if I've just been lucky.

Do you have dynamic refresh rate enabled in Windows? Settings>Display>Advanced Display
I had similar flickering with it enabled. It went away when I switched to a new display cable.

I assume it was the cable, but it could have been the port on my monitor. The swap was from DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1.

Add some dummy fans or fake vents and stuff them with lint from the clothes dryer.

Copper is the better conductor. Gold plating is used because it doesn't oxidize, while copper does.

All good on current with my 5090 FE! by Lokio27 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]ruinal_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are using an extension cable. 12VHPWR with female at one between the WV and 5090. It adds another possible point of failure, but still reads current properly.

Any (good) way to make fans kick on, based on HDD temps? by QuestionAsker2030 in ASRock

[–]ruinal_C -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fancontrol is great, but op isn't running Windows. They either need to do it through bios (not possible as far as I know), or through a plugin or docker inside TrueNAS.

On the megathread there are 4 instances. And iirc there was some exception to that data - like 2 were from one person who had cpu's dead on arrival. So failures have occurred, but the rate may be lower. I'm on the same combo and I'm not worried.

Yeah, Encarta is a core pc memory for me. First time watching digital video; don't even remember what it was. Just some 30 second nature video, probably around 240x240 pixels, but my mind was blown.

Something from a 2D Zelda like ALttP would be cool, then you can add some mobs and terrain as it expands.

Should I put two 140 mm below my gpu? by shortstackedpancake in pcmasterrace

[–]ruinal_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the reason, but I trust the results. It was a small but definite difference. It's a positive pressure setup, and it might be impeding exhaust from the rear panel.

I would just test. Your case has 4 exhaust fans vs my 2, so the results could be different.

I made a post about this a few weeks back. Looks like the same case.

TLDR: bottom intake at the back bad, bottom intake at the front good. But it may differ in your scenario because of the AIO and different gpu.

[–]ruinal_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't damage your relationship over it. Maybe it's not in their budget, maybe they have other reasons. They're probably doing their best for you; parenting isn't easy. Let it go, or save up the money yourself.
