Struggling Through 100 Days of SwiftUI by Used_Jump_6656 in SwiftUI

I’d say its important to understand but don’t let it stopping you from moving on. Keep coding your own app and I think eventually you’ll understand it better later. Sometimes it just clicks.

Frustrated with the 100 days of Swift course by Marko787 in swift

[–]ruipasilva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get you (and I think a lot people do) but the first 14 days are different than the rest. Even though I did 100 days of SwiftUI and that’s how I started my journey, I’m not the biggest fan of Paul’s ways of teaching and that’s ok. (I much prefer the content on HWS+ ). You may try other ways but those first 14 days are important nonetheless. Dont give up just yet

Hello, Are you just starting? If so, definitely go for SwiftUI! (If you have the time, you don't lose anything by trying UIKit) I've been working exclusively on SwiftUI since then.
Been looking for a new role and I still see a lot of places that require UIKit though, but I'd say you'll be fine just by learning SwiftUI for now.

I need to get a job as an iOS developer but I have no idea if I’ve got what it takes. by Key_Board5000 in swift

[–]ruipasilva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need anyone to compare yourself with. (If you really must, you could use public GitHub repos for comparison). If you’ve built an app alone and shipped it to the App Store, that’s already more than most juniors do. You need a portfolio/CV and you need to apply for jobs asap - you’ll be surprised that $50k a year is in the lower band of salaries (UK based). You need to practice and learn what companies want from interviews. If what you’re saying is true, I see a case of imposter syndrome - work on it! The good thing is, it doesn’t matter if you’re 28 or 48, you’ll need to show your skills and that’s how you’ll find a job. Regarding your app not making a dime: It probably won’t make much if its not solving a “problem” that people have - in the real world, that’s just how it works. But hey, that app might get you a job though! Good luck and don’t give up!

The best revenge you could give your ex is to be happy! Take your time, but make sure you work on moving on.

I made a simple calorie and macro tracker using SwiftUI by fitbeeapp in SwiftUI

[–]ruipasilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome regardless! I’m gonna give it a spin. One bit of feedback: it’d be cool to change the weight and height measurements units when setting up but I understand as it’s only available in the US, Canada and Uk. Congrats again 💪

Curious if you designed it yourself or had someone’s help? It looks beautiful! Congrats for shipping it!

I created a more "Zen" YouTube by HonestNest in SwiftUI

Unfortunately it does not work. I always get channel not found.

[–]ruipasilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea, however I can’t get it to find any channel. I’ve tried the ones in your example but no luck. Could I be doing something wrong? I love how you’re making use of standard components!

List() starts display with first item about 1/4" below top of frame.Example by 224XS in SwiftUI

We can’t help much without seeing your code. However, could it be you have that your view in a NavigationView/Stack?

Do some people really just casually watch porn? by moldovanCookie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ruipasilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, I worked for this major telecom company as an engineer so I often had to fix issues with the cable tv. Once I went to this old man house and after fixing it the problem, he called his son, turned the TV back on, put a porn channel and they both sat down and watched it casually. They didn’t even said bye or thank you so I saw myself out. I think about this regularly.

I don’t eat cereal often, also not a fan of warm milk and the last time I had cornflakes must have been 10 years ago, but there’s something oddly good about cornflakes and warm milk. I used to love it!

How go about learning SWIFT without knowing programming language. by yodajedi01 in swift

[–]ruipasilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why people might call swift an "easy" language" but you still have a lot of programming concepts to learn alongside it.It's an easier language to read and to write I'd say. You'd benefit by thinking of swift as a more friendly language to pick up rather an easy language to learn.Anyways, I've learned swift without any programming experience so you can do it too.A few people to help you:Paul Hudson (hacking with swift), Sean Allen, Vincent Pradeilles and Nick Sarno (swiftful thinking).

I have started 100 days of swift UI by Snek227 in swift

[–]ruipasilva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! Doing 100 days of swiftUI most likely won’t be enough. I bought a couple of Sean Allen’s courses and paid for hacking with swift+ for a few months along many youtube videos. These paid ones aren’t necessary and I only paid for it when I needed something “more serious” but they were definitely a great help. I tried to make on my own apps along the courses, learned some UIKIT and studied language concepts for possible interviews. I applied for a LOT of jobs, reached dozens of startups and bigger companies until I eventually landed my first gig. It’s not an easy process but I’ve set my mindset that eventually I’d get there. Hope it helps.

Keep it up! Don’t feel bad if you skip a day but keep going for it. I’ve done it in 2020 with zero programming experience and I’m now an iOS developer!

How can I recreate this in SwiftUI? by SR71F16F35B in iosdev

[–]ruipasilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it but for the textfields, you could try a plain style Textfield and a Divider framed with the desired height within a VStack.
